Deciding to be adventurous last week we decided to try sushi for the first time and enjoyed it very much. Other that Teppanyaki, where else is there a good place for sushi in WDW?

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I posted on this subject not too long ago....but we love Wolfgang Puck's at DTD for sushi.............nice sushi bar!!!!!!!

:teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

There is a good place for Sushi (also has Karaoke bar) in the Swan Hotel.

Kimono's at the Swan has excellany sushi. They also have an amazing sea bass soaked in sake for 2 days (i think). Everything we have had there has been the best from tempura to the sea bass to the sashimi (more friends than me:tongue: ) to the rolls. Highly recommend.

I'm always afraid to try the raw fish ones..so I go with the California Rolls. Have only had them at Teppanyaki as well. LOL

Has anyone tried the Calif Rolls at the various locations?

Ya only live once. Try the fish sushi! But skip the eel!

I tried it for the first time at WDW back in July - I LOVED it. I got mine at Kimonos at the Dolphin.

Yummmy.

DH tried it at California Grill because we had heard good things about it - he liked it - I didn't ;)

I really think the sushi bar in my town puts cocaine in the rice so you will come back. The first time I ate sushi I didnt think I would ever eat it again. After the 2nd time I was hooked and now if I dont eat it atleast every 2 week I will start craving it. MMMMM SPICY TUNA ROLL WITH CRUNCH ADDED!!

Oh, the eel is wonderful! Its cooked and then it has a sweet sauce over the top. Its like dessert. The egg custard one is safe for the non-raw fish folks - also dessert like.

First time raw fish triers should try the tuna. Tuna (good tuna, not chicken of the sea) is often served very rare in restaurants, so there is a good chance you've had something similar before. Salmon is also "not too fishy."

Put a little wasabi in the bowl (or a lot if you really like wasabi) and dissolve in with soy sauce. Then dip (took many times of eating sushi before someone showed me that.).

IIRC (and someone correct me)

Maki is the rolls
Sushi is used for everything, but is technically raw fish over rice - sometimes with a little garnish (like with the eel).
Sashimi is just the fish, skip the rice

Sushi rules! I think the smoked eel is the best::yes:: I have sushi'd in WDW at Teppanyaki, Calif. Grill, and Puck's. They were all excellent. Sounds like I need to visit the Swan next trip:fish:

Nigiri sushi is the fish over a small amount of rice. IT isn't always raw in the case of shrimp or BBQ eel nigiri sushi.

I agree, however. The BEST sashimi is definitely Maguro (tuna).

California rolls do have raw fish in them, so your already ahead of the game!!:Pinkbounc

California rolls don't have raw fish in them as far as I know? They have crabmeat (imitation or cooked), cucumber, and avocado in them. I've never had one with anything else in it? Well some do come with those orange fish eggs on the outside, I guess those are raw? Great, now you all have me craving some sushi :hyper: !

We went to the wine pairing at Teppanyaki on Friday, October 22nd. Now I've got to figure out how to attach photos. I only know how to do it through Shutterfly, if anyone can give me photo attaching hints I'd appreciate it! Anyway, at the sake pairing, I learned a couple of things, 1. Sake does not taste terrible (like it does at cheap Chinese restaurants!). Actually it's quite good!. 2. The "California roll" type Sushi is considered by the Japanese (at least per the chef at Teppanyaki) to be "American sushi". Japanese would never make it that way or with those ingredients.

Now, separately from the above (and I way don't consider my self a sushi expert, so if I'm wrong I apologize!!), sitting opposite us was a woman wearing a lime green t-shirt (as I was). Throughout the meal I wondered if she was a Disboarder. We got to talking afterwards and I asked her. She had not idea what I was talking about but was very interested when I told her this is the place to be to find out when those Food & Wine dinners will first go on sale! So, hopefully, she has, or will be joining us. If she does (or you have if you're reading this), send me a pm, I'd love to know you've joined our little cult!!

So here's the link to the pictures from the Wine Pairing. There are only 3, first is the sashimi, 2nd, the sushi and 3rd, the "American style" sushi (which I must say I love!).

hope this works:

Hi. I'm Lori. I'm another sushi addict. ;)

I am a big fan of eel, too. But the sushi I had at WDW didn't have a huge selection, so I figured that I couldn't go wrong
ordering a spicy tuna roll or California roll at the Matsu No Ma
Lounge in Japan.

I had a tasty roll at Wolfgang Puck's on the West Side, I think a Dancing Roll. (I believe it was similar to what we have here as a Dragon Roll.) So pricey compared to what I'm used to, but good.

But what else fuels my addiction? Miso soup and edamame (soybeans inside the pod). Just one word of advice:

When you eat edamame, do NOT eat the pod. Use your teeth to squeeze the beans out of it. The pod is tough and nasty. I had the good fortune of someone telling me this before I ever tried them. But I have seen edamame newbies make the fatal mistake.
LOL!

OK, I've never tried the eel (the idea makes me squeamish), but I'll have to give it a shot. If I don't like it, I'm sure my husband (like the old commercial!), Greg'll eat it! I like edamame too. That spicy tuna roll sounds good! OH, you're going in 4 days (I'm SOOOO jealous!).
wish I were there RIGHT NOW!
:teleport:

If you've never had sushi before, beware, once you have it you'll be addicted and (to quote DisLuv) if you don't have it every couple weeks you'll go crazy. And it's not the cheapest meal you'll have either, but it's great.
