Survivor

I wish they held off the merge for awhile longer. Anyone remember poor Sephanie who was all alone after her tribe was decimated? (I think I'm remembering that correctly) I'd like the "send one person.." thing, I'd like it much better if the tribe members who go on the boat are kept together for awhile. Many of the challenges are getting stale and at this point you can pick who's going to win ahead of time. I do miss the family members showing up for a challenge. Since many Survivor cast members are going on to compete on "The Challenge" Survivor needs to up the ante in the competitions.

The show is starting to get lazy and the complaining competitors (and those with special interests) get annoying. Anyone remember the dude who complained about Jeff saying "come on in guys" and that line is now scrapped.

Can't say I am content at the end of each season, but this time I am. 🏆

On a side note: DH mentions how neat, clean Sue is, even her hair is fixed. I say hey, it looks like she has makeup (foundation) on. Do you think she was allowed to bring some for the final shows? Then he says LOOK AT RACHEL HER FRECKLES ARE GONE! Did they both have makeup OR did production spruce them up a bit?

For the finale? Maybe. For the after-show, definitely, they had a chance to shower, put on fresh clothes, and get some make-up. Which they certainly earned!

I wasn't at all surprised how the vote turned out. Good for the winner!

Sam's one vote wasn't because of game play. It was because Kyle respected/liked him as a person.

In the interviews that the players do after they are voted off, Carolyn said that she and Rachel were very close and spent a lot of time talking strategy. Several members on the jury, including Andy, said that they were impressed with Carolyn and what they learned about her game after she got to Ponderosa. Carolyn knew Rachel's strategy and she was discussing it with others on the jury. Who on the jury could advocate for Sam in the same way?

We were happy with the winner. I agree that Sam made a good case at FTC, but it clearly wasn't enough. I did feel bad for Teeny because their fire was so close; I commented to my husband early that there was no wind, and I jinxed it.

Regarding Kyle's vote for Sam, that gave Sam second place winnings. I read elsewhere that if Rachel had received all of the votes then Sue would have gotten second place. I don't know if that is the rule based on being picked to sit at FTC vs. earning the spot with fire making, and I don't know if that statement is even correct. By giving Sam the vote, Kyle takes away second place winnings from Sue.

Listening to some of the post-game podcasts. Apparently Rachel was an alternate for Survivor 46. She was flown out, spent a week at Ponderosa, and was sent home.

Interesting. And that makes sense. I’m really glad Kyle threw a vote Sam’s way.

I was sad to see that Sam only got 1 vote. I think his arguement at Tribal was good. I think he played well enough to have more votes based on his ability to stay in the game for that long without idols or advantages. That, in my opinion, is someone who knows how to play. Kyle will for sure be asked back again to play in a future season, maybe Sam will be too.

Yeah I thought Sam made a good argument. Being on the correct side of every vote and surviving having the most votes cast on you is pretty impressive. I went into tribal thinking it was a runaway by Rachel but then Sam had me thinking it could have been closer to 50/50.

What made me think he had a chance was the fact that Rachel was basically saved by pure luck not once, but twice. Her idol wasn't searched for and found by herself. She was fed the clue in a random personal item at the auction. Sweet, free idol! And she also got saved by Sol when she found herself on the losing team of a challenge with no members from her previous tribe. He luckily found a random advantage that they only offered the one time, and gave it to Rachel to help him keep numbers against the other previous tribe.

She won a good amount of challenges which usually means you get voted out towards the end but she won a couple of the last few and had an idol for when she lost which definitely helps.

Overall I would have been happy if she or Sam won, and this ending was better than some of the last few. But I still feel like they need to mix it up a bit more or something. If Rachel wasn't saved by those 2 lucky circumstances then we very well could have had 3 ducks at the end again like in some seasons.

I want 2 or 3 challenge beasts at the end. And honestly some of the challenges were embarrassing with everyone just standing around waiting for 1 person to finish because everyone has given up or was way too far behind. Get some competitors in there.

Also, I still want them to change firemaking into something else for the final challenge. Somehow after going the entire season on Survivor, after getting back to camp to practice, it was clear than neither Sam or Teeny had ever picked up the flint before... Really? YOU WERE GOING ON SURVIVOR!

Did Sue get any votes this year? I can't remember. It could come down to who had the most votes against them through the game would be the tie breaker. I think this was the case early on but might have changed too.

I get what you're saying about Rachel, but--she had a good enough relationship with Sol that he wanted to save her. That's not an accident.

I agree on the fire making--smh! As soon as you apply, start practicing! Like on Amazing Race--learn to drive a stick shift! And for Survivor, a tai chi or yoga class or three might help with balance--there's ALWAYS challenges where balance is a big part of it. Aside from generally being in good shape.

It might have ben that, or because Sue had found an idol, or that she had won immunity one time. I'm sure it's detailed in the umpteen pages of rules that the players get.

The luck with that time she was saved wasn't "luck" that Sol chose her, but luck that they happened to place an advantage like that at that time and that Sol was the one who found it.

Like her Idol clue, it was a roll of parchment left sitting where someone could/would find it. It had the strength akin to an idol, you just had to play it for someone else. It's just weird that

If that had been a clue to a true idol instead, just like Rachels random note was, then Rachel would have gone home, and Sol would have had an idol to play for himself instead. Maybe he would have won, who knows. But she got the benefit of BOTH her lucky find, AND Sol's. And Sol got nothing.

I guess I would just be super salty if I was in Sol's shoes lol

Edit to add: Heck, depending on when that was placed, you could even say that it might have been fixing the game a little bit. Strange how that the only advantage like that was placed at the reward just after the immunity challenge where the losing side had a 100% unanimous landslide vote lined up...

If anyone got that advantage at that time for that specific tribal, there was really only one person to play it for if you wanted to shake the game up. Rachel. That is exactly what I said when Sol found and read that paper at the time (if you want to believe in conspiracy theories lol)

I was fine with Rachel or Sam, Rachel played really well although I think at Tribal she came off a little more braggy than she needed to be.

I was glad Sue didn't get any votes. I wonder if anyone was really shocked she was that old I know they showed some shocked faces but really come on, plus it was weird IMO to just blurt it out like that, especially the birthday with the age like she made it seems like she needed that attention on herself 🙄.

Like some of you mentioned Sam did make a good case at the end of his gameplay, I'm thinking that Rachel was just more liked as a player she did have more behind the scene plays or advantages. But Sam was able to perform well enough at challenges and make it out of tribals time after time and that meant something.

I did feel bad for Teeny with the fire but that is how it happens sometimes, the wind blows it to the side, the wind blows it out, the wind shifts directions, etc. At the same time just like in the immunity challenge Teeny relied on someone else (Rachel in this case) to tell her what to do.

I do get where you're coming from, maybe a different player would have but I think Sol seemed to come across as the type of person that wouldn't be like that, he was happy to play just wanted to play his game rather than be talked down to like Rome did to him. Now, had it been Sue or Teeny? Maybe even Genevieve? I think they would have taken it differently.

I don't disagree with you about Sol and Rachel, he didn't really know Rachel that well, I mean the tribes had just merged, but I do think he recognized that where she sat at and what he knew of her he could see it be interesting to the game. From what I could find too it sounds like he was thinking she would be a good addition to his alliance so I think he was more thinking at the moment was could be good for his gameplay. It just didn't work out for Sol in the end to get far enough in.
