Survivor question...about being chosen for the show

As I am thinking about MAYBE submitting a video to go on Survivor, I am wondering what they look for. I am sure personality is a HUGE factor. But, what do you think drew them to the likes of say, Lydia? She does not seem overly outgoing, she is middle-aged, and not model-thin.

I can have a great out-going personality, once I am comfortable with my surroundings, and the people in it. It takes me awhile to warm up though. I would be an "older" Survivor since I am 37, will be 38 January. So, what I am hoping, is they look for the quieter middle aged, and let the young ones have the personality. Look at how long the loud singing lady (Wanda???) lasted last season.

Can you think of an older female that has been on Survivor who has had a perosnality match the kids? I think most of the older females have been more quiet. OK, Sue Hawk, but she was an exception!

I was thinking that it was Lydia's profession (fish monger!) that might have caught the producers attention. Also that lady that was the boy scout leader, she was a bit "different." So maybe it is the job that can be the interesting thing that they are looking for.

I think they like to have some older contestants (BTW, I think it is so sad that 38 is considered "older"! But for TV, I guess it is). It makes for more of an interesting dynamic.

Good luck! I think it is worth a try. It would be great to have a DISer on the show!

Wasn't 'Mad Dog' an older lady with some spunk? I think that was her nickname anyway. Also, what about Sue the truck driver from the very first Survivor? She had a really strong personality and got pretty far in the game if I remember.

It seems to me they pick people who either have a really strong personality, or someone whose personality traits/lifestyle, though mild, might conflict with other peoples personality traits/lifestyle. They want to have the possibility of stirring things up I think.

I remember on some behind the scenes show for reality tv a previous person from Survivor said when she was answering the questionnaire she would answer everything the way she thought they would like to see it, so as seem like she would be a good candidate to stir things up (i.e. "Would you ever lie to a teammate? Yes. Do you hold prejudices against other people? Yes., etc.) I don't neccesarily agree with this, since it's like she was presenting a completely different persona.

I think you should go for it! Maybe in the video you'll have to make you can somehow show both your quiet side as well as your outgoing side. Maybe they would even see that as a plus, since initially you would give your teammates one impression about yourself being a quiet, soft spoken oerson but later you have the ability to become more outgoing (possibly outspoken in their eyes) and can change things up a bit.

I think that they look for a variety of people, ages, and personalities. My sister applied a few seasons ago and didn't even get a call, but they get so many tapes she wasn't expecting a call. She still had fun making the tape, though. My 2 sisters have a tape ready for the next call for Amazing Race. If there is another family edition the three of us (plus whoever else we convince to do it with us) would consider that. I do think that we'd kill each other, though.

I wouldn't be so sure. I imagine the dancing Lydia we saw on the one episode may be closer to the one on the audition tape.

Based on the tapes we have been shown in the past it looks like they go for hunks/babes that are willing to go all out to fill the younger spots, at least one alternative lifestyle spot, and older folks who seem to be outgoing enough to mix it up with the younger folks.

The only hint I have is to practice making fires without anything as soon as you submit your video. It always surprises me that people don't know how to start one. I could see the people who were on the first shows might not know how, but anyone who has been watching in the last few years should be prepared.

i think your best shot is gonig to make a funny and interesting audition video. thats what im gonig to do when im 21 and can enter. make it so they HAVE to pick you.
