Do the surrey bikes have seat belts for children? With 3 children 4-5 adults, we would rent 2. We're staying at VWL, and the idea is to get over to FW, rent cane poles at the bike barn at FW and fish for a little bit at FW. What ages or sized children do you think would be the youngest/smallest you would put on a surrey bike? If the surrey bike doesn't work, we could just take the boat over to FW.

We did a surry bike in Feb while staying at VWL. My girls thought it was a hoot! I'm not sure about seatbelts on the main seats. My little girl who was 5.5 sat in the 'basket' on the front. It is a seat for 2 younger children. She fit in it fine and is about average for her age. She also had a great time ringing the bell. I just pulled out my pictures. It looks like there might be a belt for that front seat but I don't see any for the main seats. My DD11 sat in the back and petaled. It was fine for her but wasn't as effective petalling because the petals were a little farther away then a kids bike.

You might want to look into the cost if you haven't already. It might make more sence to do those as two seperate events.

You pay for the surrey bikes by the hour. If you intend to spend some time at FW, the "meter" on your surrey bike will be running the entire time. So as lisareniff suggested, you might want to do these as separate events.

Thanks for the information and the notes about the clock ticking! Maybe some of us can ride the ones who want to fish over, and then return while the fishing people come back via boat. I'll give it more thought.

PS. Now I wonder if they rent the surrey bikes right at FW...we can all take the boat over, and those who want to fish, do that, those that want to ride do that. Do they have those bikes at FW...anyone?

I was curious about that myself so I just called the Bike Barn at FW and was told they used to have surrey bikes but they don't have them any longer. DH and I have thought about doing a Trails End breakfast outing (bike over from VWL, have breakfast, then pedal back home). This thread got me wondering if maybe you could do one-way surrey bike rentals between WL and FW but apparently not. Too bad.

Thanks for that information! Yes, that's too bad. We enjoy eating at Trails End, and often end our WDW trips there, via a boat from WL, whether or not we stayed there.

Riding a bike from VWL to FW and back is one of my must do's in appropriate weather of course, and I was want to pass along the idea of doing these special things, just in case the tendency isn't already in our DGC's genes! Of course, my DS, their DDad, loves FW and VWL as much as I do, so we're pretty sure it's not a hard sell.

We did the surry bike at BWV on our last trip. It was one of our favorite activites, esp with the boardwalk atmosphere. Dd loved ringing the bell.
My little one is 21months, and sat well in the front basket. There was a seat belt that I believe went across both girls. How young probably depends on how well a toddler would sit still. Ours typically doesn't sit still for anything, but she loved the ride and did great.

I sent this note to DDiL...our littlest will be 34 months and we will be at the BWV for Halloween activites. It sounds as if these bikes will work. There's so many things to pick...I don't want to plan too many things, just have options available. Thank you.
