It appears we've had another shooting this morning. This time in Spotsylvania, which is about 40 miles south of DC along I-95. This time it looks like they have some witnesses and they're reporting having seen a white van. I'm watching the TV and they have a huge road block on I-95, at the mixing bowl, right where it hits 495/395, going into DC (maybe some of you are familiar with that area). Policemen are lined up on the road and they're doing a car by car check--huge traffic jam! I was planning on heading up that way this morning to go to the mall; I think I'll stay put instead.

All of the area schools are still in this lock down mode, no outside or after-school activities. I have to admit it's a little weird when you pick your seven-year-old up from school and he asks you if anybody else had been shot today.

Let's hope that the policemen are successful in their search.

Oh Steph, what an awful situation. I hope they find the person soon so you can get back to a normal way of life.

Stay home and give your little one a hug - he shouldn't need to know about this side of life just yet.

I keep seeing all this on the news and find it so unbelievale..............goodness there are some evil people in the world.

That sounds awful Steph. I've seen it on the news tonight it must be really frightening for everybody living in the area. Let's hope they catch this person soon before any more lives are lost.
Keep safe

It is also a major news item over here Steph :(
A very sick evil mind is at work, and it must be so very disturbing for you. We can only hope that they slip up very soon in this "game" they think they are playing with the police.
I can understand how parents and schools are trying to protect the children - how are you all managing with day to day things?
I'm wondering if it would be safer to fill the car with gas at night-time and with at least one other person in the car?

Hi all, it is a very frightening thing here in the US with this sniper on the loose.

We live in New York, and were hit hard by the whole 9/11 thing, but Washington must be going nuts with this sniper on top of recovering from last 9/11 attacks on the Pentagon.

We are supposed to visit Washington D.C. next weekend to watch my father run in his 25th consecutive Marine Corps marathon (he's 73). Only one or two other people have ever accomplished this feat and he is really looking forward to running it as we are looking forward to being there for him. It is just scary to think the sniper could be anywhere. I am not changing my plans yet, but do hope they catch this person/persons very soon.

Yes Mouse, everyone around here is on edge. I need to go gas up my van, but I've been putting it off. I know it's silly, but it is scary all the same.

...... they have been showing the Guardian Angels filling up people's cars for them at the garages so the drivers don't have to get out of their cars....... is that not happening near you Steph?

Yes, I heard about that. But, it would be about a 25 minute drive. My DH wants be to drive to the nearest army post and fill up, that's about 20 minutes. I was very brave and did it after getting my hair cut this morning. But, I was nervous and so were all of the other soccer moms tanking up.

There were tons of helicopters in the air over us today. I was at the Potomic Mills shopping center and they were flying over the parking lot constantly. Made me feel a little better.

OH god just reading this makes me think all my worries are little ones compared to yours, Take care, thinking of you all.
