How do you surprise the kids and fly? My kids are now old enough to be like "wait, we are flying where?" While many times they are dazed and confused I want to surprise them till we arrive at the resort type thing. Or will I just have to have it blown once we start boarding the plane?

Can you say you are visiting the beach? Tell the kids you have beach vacation planned.

We used to go every two years or so before purchasing DVC.

Back then, we used to take yearly three-day weekends to Lancaster, PA. One year they thought we were going to Lancaster until they each took out their packed luggage and I came out with AK (it had just opened recently) luggage tags. They were definitely surprised.

It all depends on your vacation patters, ages, etc.

If they are old enough to read, won't they realize at the airport they are flying to Orlando?

They are old enough that once they get to the gate and such they will start to clue in.

I don’t know, my youngest has too much anxiety for us to pull off a surprise trip and have it go well 😂 We’ve never done it for that reason and then my oldest has also said she doesn’t want to be surprised because she likes looking forward to the trip. It looks fun, though and now I wish we would have done it when they were really little.

We surprised the kids a half hour before our car service arrived. They were told we were going to visit an old aunt at a nursing home 2 hours away for her birthday, so they weren’t disappointed when they realized they were going to Disney instead.

At their age, the surprise ends when you approach the gate. Keeping the surprise until then is the trick.

Oh the S word in my family
Pretend you believe forever or surprises will disappear.
I always told my daughter Santa won’t come if you don’t believe!
