So, I'm saving up for a WDW trip in October for my Mom. I already have quite a bit saved up and it looks like it will actually work out.

My mom and I had a great vacation in 2013 in Williamsburg, VA. The highlight of the trip was this wine pairing class we went to. We just had a blast! I thought since in October it's food and wine fest, it might be a perfect trip for us! I've talked her beforehand about a trip to Disney and she's all in if it's the Food and Wine Fest. We don't need to do everything in the parks, but maybe 2-3 fastpass rides, eating good food, and just enjoying the magic and atmosphere of disney! We like a lazy vacation, leaving the hotel when we want and coming back to relax. That's why I'm trying to save for Boardwalk so we can just head to Epcot whenever we feel like and there is still plenty to do at the hotel.

I would like to surprise her for Mother's Day. I don't want to surprise her with "we're leaving right now to Disney World!!!" since she's 60ish and would probably have an anxiety attack with not being able to plan or prepare for the trip. What would be a nice way of surprising her? Maybe a card? Does Disney have "you're going to disney world" cards? Mouse ears? A lanyard to prepare for pins? I'm leaning towards a new camera she'll need for "new memories on our WDW vacation."

I do want to surprise her on the hotel. I want to say we're staying a value and surprise her with a deluxe. Would this backfire? I think it would freak her out (in a good way!). Is it possible to do that?

Have you surprised your parents with a trip, how did you go about it?

I do want add, if she doesn't want to go, I'll gladly cancel our plans and put the money towards a trip she'd like to take instead. :goodvibes

Thanks everyone!

I'd imagine that you could get lanyards and mouse ears through the online store, no problem. When I surprised my then gf, now fiance' with our trip, I gave her a hint on V-Day and then every holiday (St. Pat's, Easter, 4th July, etc...) between then and her b-day, I'd get another card and put another hint in it.

Another thing you could do, see who will be performing during the Eat to the Beat concerts while you are there and feel her out to see if it is a show she would like going to. Maybe arrange a dinner/show combo ADR for the performance.

You can get a free Disney vacation DVD and get it mailed to her. Not sure if you have any Disney music, but I would play a Disney CD when you are in the car together for whatever and break the news. Get her a book about Disney World. Also, renting a Disney movie and watching it together would work. We loved the movie Frozen and it's still winter; so, this could be a good choice. My hubby even had a tear at one of the parts of this movie. Get a few Disney toys and go to dinner and present them to her. If you can spend some time create your own video about it and e-mail it to her.

I want to mention that during the F & W fest there are special events that cost extra, but it's a lot of fun to go to one of these events and they are amazing and well done. You have to sign up and many of the events get sold out; so, as soon as, the dates are mentioned for the events you need to grab one. The prices will range from $75 to $150 each. Many of these events include a meal and wine. Some are dessert parties.

Getting the dining plan may be the way to go, too. You can use your snack credits for the food booths throughout the WS. The dining plan can' be used towards the special events.

I envy you. I lost my mom in July 2012 and I miss our trips there together.

What about a big big box with helium disney balloons attached to the card with all the plans? You can also put some new Mickey ears, disney album, camera etc! If you tear the flaps of the box and flip it upside down to wrap Then they just float right up! If your careful enough uou can place confetti on top and it will fall as well, It's fun!
