We leave in just 12 days and are surprising the kids! We want to tell them at the airport. DD is 7 and DS is 5. This is their second trip so we're going to give them their mouse ears at the airport. I'm dying!! The secret is huge but payoff will be amazing. Any tips from anyone who has done this?

We surprised our kids 2 years ago with a trip. They were 8 and 7 at the time. We told them before we left the house. We found out the hard way that our 7 year old is NOT a big fan of surprises. He was fine by the time we got to the airport and we had a great vacation. Have a great time.

Us too!! Well I guess 13 days, but it looks like we'll be there at the same time:)

I'm not sure if we'll wait until the airport b/c I want to give my very particular 5 yo a chance to adjust if things don't go as planned. But, I already have their carry-ons packed and I put snacks/toys, as well as autograph books and mouse ears in them. I guess we're planning on having them open them and see if they can figure out where we're going:) I am going around and around in my head trying to figure out the wording too! We have a DS who will be turning 5 on our 2nd day there, and a DD who is 2! Have a magical trip and come back and let us know how the surprise went!

We surprised our twins with a trip a few years back right after their last week of Kindergarten. We were driving to FL from Indiana so it was quite the feat. When we stopped to get a hotel room after a full day of drivings, one whispered to me "I think Daddy took a wrong turn." It was an unforgettable time and the pictures of them the moment they realized we were at Disney are some of my all time favs. One thing we did was get them each a copy of the official kids guide to WDW to look at as we traveled. It would make a great distraction for on the plane. I intended to hand them the books when they guessed where we were. They are very trusting souls however (we've done other adventures like that too) and didn't catch on until we actually drove under the Welcome to WDW sign.

It was such a precious time. Good luck with your surprise and make sure you've got the camera ready!

I already ordered the official kids guide for the plane! We live in NH and they think we are just driving to see family in VT (a 4 hour drive) instead we are driving to the airport. The plan is for my in laws to wear the mouse ears and say they want to go to disney world instead!

I know this will probably sound so awful but it was really great. We had been twice before with DS so this was his third trip but each time we went he could go on more and more. We had planned to camp in a tent at ft wilderness three years ago and it just wasn't feasible for several reasons so we decided to book a room. Months leading up we told DS who was 4 going on 5 that we would be camping, he asked a lot of question like how we cooked or did things but his biggest question was the bathroom. So DH had this great idea of telling him he had to dig a hole :crazy2:.So he thought we were going camping in Ohio he had to dig a hole to go to the bathroom so I know he wasn't really looking forward to the trip. Well we drove all night from PA and when we passed the big welcome to Walt Disney world he was so happy it was the best pay off ever. This time we leave on Sat and I haven't told him yet its been two years since we have been anywhere! I am really dying to tell him!
