Surprising DH with CL room. When to tell him?

I was cancelled from the 3 night Oct 7 cruise due to the hurricane. I ended up booking the Dec 12th cruise with our 20% discount from DCL but at the time of booking no CL rooms were available.

A couple weeks ago Shoreside called to say that the'd had a cancellation. I could get my cat V with the 20% discount so I took it. ( Our Oct 7 cruise was also CL)

Anyway, Dh was mildly disappointed that CL wasn't available when we booked the cruise, and encouraged the WL but he has NO idea that the WL came through or that we now have the room.

I'm trying to decide when to tell him that we got it. We're driving down and I plan on being at the port early (Dh is hoping we'll snag an upgrade at the port). At what point would you tell him? He probably won't notice that we get in the CL line, but will definitely know when we go to the CL boarding area. Any ideas on surprising him?

You would want to tell him before you get to the 1st gate at the terminal. They will ask your cabin number at that time

I'm surprising my kids with CL on an upcoming Wonder cruise on 12/16/16, and my plan was to tell them once we get to the port and get in the Concierge line. I'm sort of tempted to tell them now... I have been having fun looking forward to it and know they would too. Idk, there are pros and cons, but if you've waited this long - you might as well just wait till you are there! Either way, what a fun surprise!

Congratulations, you are in for a real treat with concierge room on a Merritime cruise. So glad to hear your disappointment turned into something positive.

It is hard to answer without knowing the two of you personally. If you think he might be putting a lot of thought into how to get to the port as early as possible to snag an upgrade, I would tell him now. To me, the anticipation is part of the experience and, personally, I don't like keeping secrets, even very happy ones, from those close to me, except perhaps for children who will have a difficult time dealing with months of waiting.

I don't know that he'd know that our room is CL by the number. First, he's clueless when it comes to that stuff and second, we've never had an 11th deck CL room before. So, not 12th, I don't know that he'd catch it. I need to change the room #s on my luggage tags also. We upgraded after the check in book arrived.
