Surprised when booking the GCH

While booking a standard room at the GCH I was pleasantly surprised when the CM asked if I had any room requests. Unfortunately, I didn't. Can anyone suggest a standard room number or area that had a decent view and/or was centrally located to the DTD exit or CA exit? The location is probably our top priority. Since they asked, I figure I might just call back with a request. Thanks!

We stayed in 4004 in February and loved it. It was a standard room with bunk beds, which made it seem quite large and was right around the corner from the elevator. In the evening we could here the piano music from the lobby. Very quick to get to the lobby and into the parks. However, the view is of the entrance/parking area so if you are hoping for any sort of view I would not recommend this room. I am pretty sure we had a balcony, but I can't quite remember. If we ever get the chance to stay there again I would happily request this room.

We always request to stay above the entrance to CA. We think it's a great location for us, just an elevator ride down to the CA entrance, WWS, Storyteller's, and the pool.

I would ask for a room that is close to the elevators. It's a standard room. The view won't be spectacular (some of them have decent views), but if location is key, ask to be near the elevators.

Any of the rooms with the really good views or that are really close to the DTD exit are probably DTD view rooms, more than likely, and those are more expensive.

Thanks for the suggestions! Is there just one set of elevators? I have only stayed there once and it was years ago.

I think so (someone correct me if I'm wrong on that one), but not 100% sure. I've only seen/used the elevators that are right there off of the main lobby. We had a standard room in December 2007, and we were located fairly close to the elevators. Not right next to them, but close enough so that it just took a couple of minutes to pop downstairs. We also had a decent enough view, where we could see the Paradise Pier Hotel and look down over the valet area/entrance of the GCH.

It seems like there must only be that one set of elevators since so many people end up in DTD-view rooms and have to make the long, long trek from those rooms to get to the elevators.

There is a second set of Elevators over by Story Tellers before you make the turn to the entrance of California Adventure. There is a disconnect in the Hotel between the two. You can't use both sets from your room location, it is one or the other.

We have had Standard view, Park View and Pool View rooms. Of the three, I think we like the pool view the most. You could still hear the sounds of the park and the tops of the rides, but it was nice to see how the crowds were shaping up at the pools. We spend all day in the parks, so we know what it looks like. Plus it seemed that the vegetation cut off most of the view anyway. My least favorite was the standard view of the road and parking lot. Bunk Beds did make the room seem much larger and the kids liked having their own space.

There are multiple sets of elevators.

I would definitely consider asking for a room near the DCA entrance. If you get one, it'll be close to that bank of elevators, which is convenient to the pool as well as DCA.

There are rooms that are far, far away from elevators, and those can be a bit of a bummer, I bet.

I have walked from one end of the hotel to another and walked past the elevators very close to my room and walked, and walked, and walked, and eventually came to the next set of elevators, so they are quite far apart, at least 150 yards, probably 200 yards.

Our standard view overlooked a courtyard where the Monorail went through. My 3 year old, train-obsessed son thought that was the greatest view in the history of humankind.
