So, we enjoyed a fabulous 12 day vacation at the Polynesian last year. Went all out, had a blast, came home, and decided our next Disney trip would be a Disney cruise in Fall of '11, and then a birthday vacation for my middle DD in Spring of '12. Pretty much back to back, and not too far off. DH and I decide to take a road trip to Hilton Head this summer and enjoy the beach for a week. Ahhh...sounds so nice.
I book everything and start planning what we're going to do besides cook ourselves in the sun. Then I start to get bored. My mind turns to the World. At the same time, middle DD starts telling me she misses Disney, that she wants to leave "today" to go back to see Mickey. DD19 months starts copying her by telling me "Michael Mouse, Michael Mouse!" Then the trip reports on the board here start calling my name, testing my willpower of taking a year off of Disney. Alas, I am writing this now to come out and admit that I have no willpower when it comes to Disney, and have indeed gone forth with cancelling all of our Hilton Head plans to replace them with a week at my favorite place in the world.
The trip is planned for the end of June, and we are making it a surprise. Last year, DD7 complained that her cousins got surprised with a trip to Disney and asked "what the heck was wrong with us" for not doing the same for her and her sisters. So, we're going to make right by her and go along with the story that we're driving down to the beach through FL-
. Not until we drive under the welcome arches will we turn around and yell "Surprise!" DD19 months will have no clue, DD5 will pee her pants, and DD7 will roll her eyes and complain about the fact that we didn't tell her
. But it will still be a memorable moment, I'm sure.
This trip will be quite different from the others, mainly for the fact that we are driving down from Milwaukee, which we have never done, nor come close to considering, prior to this trip. We will also be staying at a value resort because, let's face it, a Hilton Head budget goes far for Hilton Head, but not so far for Disney. I'm going to be booking Pop Century, and I think we will all really enjoy staying there. Another big difference is that we will only be staying 5 days and hitting each park for just one day. Nevertheless, we'll be there, and that's all that matters, darnit!
We lost 18% of the full deposit we made on our beachside villa, but honestly, I did not care. We are going back to Disney on a whim, with very little plans, and without any build up for the kids. It's going to be a totally different experience, but the kids are only young once, and I want to take them where they want to be- back to our home to be with with Michael Mouse
