After finding out that a vow renewal is WAY too expensive I'm thinking about doing the re-hitching ceremony at the Garden Grille. I wanted it to be a surprise for DH but I've heard that you need to mention it when arriving at the Grille to be seated.. is there a way around this??

I think you can always call ahead and ask the manager to note it on your PS... I did a surprise for my mom last visit (slipper dessert) and simply hung back when they seated us and told the hostess at the podium our plan. Worked fine.

i would call the restaurant ahead of time to see if they can put it on your PS, then maybe figure out way to sneak in before him, or hang back when being seated, and mention it again to the hostess.

I just booked our dinner at Garden Grill today, and I asked for the Rehitching Ceremony. It will be a surprise for DH (a good one, I hope, lol) and I plan to send him and ds to the bathroom so I can mention it to the CM.

I surprised DH with this. When we arrived at the podium to check-in, I was trying to get rid of DH so I could talk to the CM alone. She noticed & when she caught my eye she just nodded & winked. I had told them when I made the PS that I was doing it as a surprise...just being chatty, you know? Evidently it was marked on our PS.

You could always excuse yourself to the bathroom & catch your server if you can't talk alone to the CM at check-in. They don't usually do it until you're ready for dessert anyway...giving you time to do it.

How about already have a note written and when you enter slip it to the hostess or waitress? Good Luck!

Do they do rehitchings at the Ice Cream Social??

Stupid question here...Where is the Garden Grille?? DH and I just had our 10 year anniversary and would love to surprise him with this. We leave in 2 days. HELP!

THERE are NO stupid questions .... that being said;

The Garden Grille is in the Land in Epcot. Please don't ask me for directions as I directionally challenged ::yes::

The Ice Cream Social is in the afternoon PS's only ... NO walk up & it helps to have a PS for dinner. We have had dinner there many times & loved it each & every time.

We did the rehitching ceremony and it was fun ... won't give you the details as it is more fun to be surprised

WuvTigger,
Thanks for the reply! I'm still debating about it, but at least I know where it is!:wave2:

Can I ask what they do at the ceremony? I wanted to surprise hubby with a vow renewal and it is so $$$$$$. I am planning on sneaking his wedding band and had "again" and the date ot our trip on it next to the original date. I wanted to just have a small renewal and then dinner with hubby and the 3 kids with maybe a small cake but that was $$$. Maybe this would be a nice alternative.

I got the impression someone didn't want the details earlier.....unless I misread that. So skip this if you do not want to know. ;)

It's a fun thing - not a romantic thing. The CM gets everyone's attention in the restaurant & announces that you're celebrating your xx anniversary. Some of the other CMs will come over as "witnesses" - depending on their work load at the moment. You may get lucky & have the characters show up, too. That depends on where they are in the restaurant & whether or not it's time for their break.

They say a few things about getting re-hitched & then have the groom kiss the bride "like you did xx years ago" while they count to 100. They count 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 - give or take a few.

They gave us a cake, but didn't ask if we'd have rather had the "regular" dessert. Some people are offered the choice. We also got a certificate stating that we'd been re-hitched with our names on it.

As I said, I surprised DH & was a bit worried. Sometimes he can be a bit of a party-pooper & is not as nuts about Disney as me. However, he had as much fun as I did & played along nicely.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Sounds great!! I think it is perfect for what I want to do and I am sure the kids will get a big kick out of it! you mentioned you had cake was this in place of the ice cream? Was the cost the same? Did you special order the cake? Thanks so much for the help

They must have arranged for the cake when I made the PS. It was not something I arranged. (They keep them frozen so they have them when people want to do this.) The cost was the same as our regular skillet meals.

We had done this at dinner & our server did not even offer us the choice of having both the cake and the regular dessert. I've read that sometimes people are given a choice....I would have opted for the strawberry shortcake they were serving at the time, but the cake really was good. :D

So,....am I reading this correctly? You CAN do the rehitching ceremony at the Ice Cream Social????!!! I really wanted to take DD4 to the ice cream thing, and I wanted to do the rehitching, but not at the dinner. (that kind of food just doesn't appeal to DH) This would work out perfectly if it is possible!!

Thanks,

Lisa

Pls make sure you remind the CM when you get there. We had this noted on our PS and I reminded them again when we checked in but they never got around to it. :(
