Surprise for Sons 12th birthday

My wife and I have booked a trip to Disneyland this October for our sons 12 th birthday. We plan on surprising him and letting him know after we land at LAX and have to board the Mickey bus..hehe. We are staying off the resort and were wondering if there are any special perks or things we could do for the birthday boy. We were thinking the Medieval dinner or pirate dinner not too sure what's all available for options. Thanks ahead for any suggestions.

Pirate's Dinner - you can sign up for the birthday club and get one free admission with one paid admission. Also, they have a lot of specials/promotions running for Pirate's Dinner Adventure and Medieval Times.

Go to city hall (or any store) and get a birthday button for him too And if you eat at a table service restaurant, make sure to mention that it's his birthday, you might just get an extra special dessert!

I'm still looking into it but I guess you can order him a cake if you want to. I think that is done with Dining Reservations.

If you don't want to order a cake through Disney, there is a Cold Stone Creamery across from DLR on Harbor that has birthday cakes. Would he like to go to the Halloween Party at DL (if you aren't already planning that)? You can let him make the plan on his birthday -- he picks the rides (and how many times), the food, the shows. Would he like F! VIP Seating with the dessert box? It is pricey, but memorable. Maybe the Happiest Haunts tour? Whatever you choose, hope your son has a magical birthday!

You may want to tell him sooner. Think of all the fun you are having planning this trip. Do you think he would want to share in that, too? Who knows, he might have some great ideas of his own!
