Surprise bags for boys on plane

I have a discount card for a locale video game store in town that I can use on used games. I'll go there next month when I don't have the boys with me.

I put the astro balls in their Disney mailboxes. I bought little white metal mailboxes at Target last month and decorated them with a bunch of Disney stickers. I put them in their rooms and put the flag up every time I put something in them. Just a little fun thing to do while waiting for the big trip. Over Valentines, I mostly put candy in there. So today they will be extra surprised when they find the Astro balls. I'll post pictures of the mailboxes so you can see what they look like. Very cute.

This is such a cute idea!

One of the posters mentioned pipe cleaners, which are fun, there's also Wikki Stix, which are colorful waxy like kind of pipe cleaners that you can build, bend and create things with, and what's nice about them on a plane or in a restaurant is that they stick to the tray/table.

This idea might be too late for your trip, but we always have maps of the parks we will be going to. My kids love looking at them, learning their way around the park, and deciding which attractions to do in which order. (Not that it happens that way, but it keeps them busy;))
It gets them excited and does truly familiarize them with the lay of the land.

Does your DS have an iPod touch? My DS9 plays a game called DoodleJump all the time and it easily keeps him occupied for several hours (assuming I'd let him play it for that long). It's really cheap, too...I think it was only 99 cents...
