Surial Bath......Should I surprise her?

I've been reading all the posts and trip reports about the Surial Bath at the Spa. Will be sailing soon with DW and DKs for the first time. I have joked with my DW about going to experience "first hand" what the Surial sensation is all about. Didn't get a good reading from her response. Should I surprise her and make reservations for us on our upcoming cruise? I know she will read this because she has become addicted to the DIS BOARDS. What do you think? I'm I in danger of being left in the steamy sanctuary, mud in hands......alone?!

Here's a vote for not surprising her!

2 reasons:
1) I'd actually be disappointed if I was teased with a "spa" surprise and it turned out to be an excuse for "closeness" instead of the hour massage I was really fantasizing about!
and
2) A lady needs to be prepared in certain ways (shaving the day before NOT day of, etc, etc.) for such a "treatment"!

With that said, DH and I have enjoyed planning our Surial time and love to read other accounts of it (hiddenhearth's trip report is hiliarious as well as Dave in the Frozen North's report found here http://wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/cruise-new/cr-dave.htm ). So plan it by all means but planning it together gets my vote!

I say do it and surprise her! I am doing it for my wife on our cruise (june 20th Wonder). Of course you know your wife better than any of us but I can adress some of the concerns that goodstepmom had for you.
1: my wife would be thrilled that I actually planned to have some close time with her as opposed to just a massage for her.
2: I would imagine that since we are being on a cruise that she will be prepared every day (shaving, etc.) because having swimsuits on all the time. But everyone is different and that is the beauty of these board to get different opinions.

...Perhaps you can surprise her, but still give her some notice? Spring it on her the night before or morning of the experience? While I agree that it is a nice surprise, I also understand where GoodStepMom is coming from....being ready for the pool and ready for "intimacy" is not the same thing for us ladies! We do like to make special preparations for our fellas prior to getting....close. Sounds like a win/win situation though

I say definately suprise her. Although us ladies normally like to be prepared for things like this, once in awhile a great suprise is worth the unneccessary worry. Just reassure her that you don't really care if her legs are shaved and such, and she will be fine. Also, make sure that the kids are all set and comfortable in the clubs so she won't worry about them. It might be even better if you do the wine tasting, then go directly to the spa! Go for it!

Okay, I was trying to be discreet with the shaving comment, let's say "Summer's Eve" or "Massingel" type prepared.

I'd still like the massage, I don't get near as much of that as the other at home !

I like the wine tasting idea before the Surial! I think we'll try to book it that way !

Im usually the type of person who does not like surprises at all, but I have to say I wouldnt mind DH surprising me with something like that...as long as I didnt have something else planned to do for that time on the ship.

Why don't you "surprise" her the evening before over a romantic drink at the bar? That way you get to surprise her, and she gets to be prepared!

I love the idea of doing this after the wine tasting! Sip a little wine, get a little silly, play in the mud....it works for me!

I have never done either one because my GYN has always pointed out to me how unhealth these items are to ones natural balance ....


I would love to have my DH surprise me....but alas I plan the entire vacation so it would be me surprising him....

Zurgswife isn't kidding about her comment. Please be careful as using these products can cause false positive results on a pap smear when you're fine. It lead to a very painful, unnecessary biopsy for me in my early 20's.

I wish they'd take this stuff off the market... it isn't safe.

I'm glad that you all liked the wine tasting idea first, I am always thinking! (we all have to be more creative after the kids are born!) I think the wine tasting starts at 3:00, so I would book the suriel bath for around 4:15-4:30, have fun!! The wine tasting can set the stage for a more "adult" type atmosphere, and give her an hour or so to get out of "mommy mode". -Sue

Wow, I got a health lesson and marital advise all in one thread. Thanks for all the help with my what if's. Wouldn't it be a lot easier if our DW's would just surprise us. Hey, I don't think a lot of prep on our( DH's ) part needed for getting muddy.

Well, the WHOLE TRIP was a surprise to DW and she thought it was the best surprise she ever had!
