Surgery at Animal Kingdom

Isn't there a day that they do surgery on the animals that visitors can see through the viewing window at Rafiki's Planet Watch?

Take the train to the petting zoo, I forget what it's officially called but not to worry, it's the only place the train goes. Once there enter the building with the interactive exhibits, again, the name eludes me (early Alzheimer's or just too many dead brain cells on the floor of the Rose&Crown?) wait, what was the question? Oh, yes, in the exhibit building there's a window-wall where you can look into the Vet's operating room and see what, if anything, is going on. We saw 'Possum getting a tumor removed on one visit and an Iguana like lizzard being worked on for something on another.

My guess is that's it's by chance if you see something. We saw them working on animals while we were there.

I think they do it every day (or almost every day), but only before noontime.
It's not always AK animals-last time I got to see them neuter a Mallard Duck.

When we were there in May we were lucky enough to talk to one of the vets on staff. He told us that they had a surgery planned for the next day---told us the time to be back.....so we made a special trip back to AK just to see the surgery (our 8 year old really wants to be a vet)...we did get to see surgery..just not the one he told us they would be doing. Instead of seeing a black buck have surgery on a broken leg we got to see 2 lemurs be neutered....talk about answering questions all day. But it was very interesting. If you are interested, ask a castmember and they should be able to tell you what is going on. I do know they do them in the early morning---sometime before lunch.

DBF and I found the observation window in 2005 when we went and spent a long time talking to one of the vets but there were no surgeries going on at the time. I didn't know they did them there where the public could watch but now that I know I will try to get there early to see what's going on! Thanks for the info!

When we went in 2004 we saw an Owl being operated on.
