Hi fellow DIS'ers. I have recently had stomach surgery which know makes it impossible for me to eat a full meal. We are heading to WDW in December this year and we have Free dining. We are going to a couple buffet style restaurants, wher I won't eat much at all. Not sure what to do as far as using my TS credits for these. I know we could just not go to those restaurants, but I don't want to ruin everybody's holiday. Just after some advice. Thanks

Look at the buffet and character dining as part of the vacation. In your case, I think the he DDP is in your favor because you do not need to focus on the cost of the meal, only on the credits used. Plan to split meals at the TS restaurants you visit, and that can help to compensate for the "wasted" ones. My DDIL and I will often share meals becase she has had surgery as well. We know front that for her, the buffet etc will not be consumed to the value of the cost of the meal, but will be enjoyed, and that is all we want for our family meals.

You will be charged as an adult at any all-you-care-to-eat, fixed price or buffet TS experience, including dinner shows, character meals, and buffets.

At those experiences, the price being charged has little to do with the food. If people could get by ordering a coffee at CRT and getting the full castle experience, the castle would be unprofitable in no time.

I'm sayin this too and also. BADBad timing sista. I diet all year just to pig out at Disney.

The OP hasn't just decided to go on a diet though, they've had stomach surgery so yes it is bad timing but it's not their fault. Im guessing they didn't say "hey, I'm going to make sure to have stomach surgery just before WDW". What a ridiculous response.

In regards to the other post above, the whole point is that they can't eat what they normally would as they've just had surgery, thus why they won't be eating as much and why they were asking if there was a possibility of not paying as much as others as they won't be getting their money's worth so to speak.

You will either be charged a dining credit or will have to pay out of pocket.

In your instance there's nothing to really worry about is there? Either you're using a credit to eat at a buffet or you're using a credit to eat at a table service restaurant where you would be expected to order a drink and entree and a dessert. It doesn't seem like you would be able to finish that kind of meal so at least with the buffet you can eat as much or as little as you want of whatever you want. And you get the added bonus of meeting characters if it's a character meal.

It's tough to drop $$$ when you can only eat very small quantities. It is what it is though and better be prepared than disappointed :)

Enjoy your trip!

One solution would be to give your TS credits to another member of your party for the restaurants that are not buffet. We did this on our last trip. We had a multi-family trip with some people who did not have the dining plan and other people who didn't want to eat at all the restaurants we planned to eat it. We booked five table service restaurants but had four table service credits for each person on the dining plan. We used the dining credits for the most expensive entrees and paid out of pocket for the people who just ordered soup or an appetizer. It worked very well.

Thanks everyone. I have booked all our ADR's and factored in me not getting $$$$$ value at the buffets, but what the heck, we got FD, so it is what it is. My 2 X Teens will share a meal with me at TS venues and I will pace myself at the buffets. Most important thing is, I AM AT DISNEY..... WHOOP WHOOP.....

I think people are assuming this was an elective surgery. That may not be the case, but people tend to assume "stomach surgery" means a lap band or a gastric bypass.

My husband had gastric sleeve done just before new years and we are going to WDW in September. I elected to only book us with one buffet because of the surgery and all of our TS meals we will be sharing and ordering an appetizer. We have free dining so I'm not worrying about the value of 1 meal. If you had weightloss surgery did the dr give you the "kids meal" card to show to restaurants so you can order off the kids meal? Perhaps you can use this to get a cheaper buffet if you're concerned. We haven't tried it at buffets yet but it might be worth a shot.

Many people have tried. All reports say that Disney does not offer discounts on character meals, not even adults at kid prices, no matter what a doctor says. People with feeding tubes who literally cannot eat ANYTHING still pay full price.

Yep, and the workers don't have time to monitor how much you actually eat/don't eat. Adults are charged adult prices at buffets....pretty much without exception.

While those cards are great no restaurant is required to follow them. Since the kids menus are based on age they can deny anyone over that age the meal. It doesn't often happen at Disney but some locations do not allow adults to order from the children's menu or if they do they get an adult portion of the kid's offering at a higher price.
