OK, I figured I would come over here to the teen threads to get your opinion about an idea I had.

Our next WDW trip is in Sept.

It may be our last vacation as a family for a while.

My DS is 18 and will be 19 on the trip.

Don't know what the future holds for him yet?

I want to do something extra special for him and was thinking about giving him surfing lessons at the Typhoon Lagoon.

He is very athletic. Into martial arts so he has great balance.
Wake boards in the summer at grandfather's lake house and can ski.
Wants to live in Hawaii one day so I thought this would fit.

Has anybody tried that?

If so, what is your opinion about the experience?

Thanks in advance for sharing.:thumbsup2

I have personally never done surfing lessons before but I am going to bump this up for anyone who has. It sounds fun.

A few trips to WDW my sister was surprised with surfing lessons. She was about 16-17 at the time. She absoulutly LOVED it. I definatley reccommend this to anybody who enjoys sports! Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for answering. I think I'm going to go with it.:thumbsup2

Anybody else?

I did it when i was like 12 or 13. It was a surprise for my birthday. It was so much fun. I would reccommend it. If he likes to wake board and he likes the water so much I'm sure he would love this. I think it was a lot better learning in a controlled enviornment(you pretty much know exactly when the waves are going to come), and plus you don't have to deal with the salt water.

Thank you for sharing with me. I knew I wanted to come to the teen thread to get help with this decision. I am convinced now it is worth the time and money and that my DS will LOVE it.:thumbsup2

No problem. I was happy to help.

Wait wait wait. ( Completely off topic ;))
I thought this place was a water park?

WHAT DO YOU SURF ON? D:
Disney sounds too cool, I can't wait until August.

Seriously, he would LOVE that!!!

We're taking my boyfriend to WDW with us this august an he's never been before, and we were watching a show on Typhoon Lagoon on the travel channel and he was FREAKING OUT that they had surfing lessons! He wants to do it sooooo badly!!
(he is 18, will be 19 as well)

So if he's anything like my BF (which he sounds ALOT like him, athletic, wants to live in hawaii...) , he will love it and have a great time. :goodvibes

um...the water....
it is before the water park opens. You go and get private surf lessons, they give you surf boards and you get to surf on controlled waves in the wave pool.
