Has anyone out there done the surfing lessons at TL? My (by then) 9 year old son (a strong swimmer who is used to swimming in the ocean on the Jersey Shore) would like to do it when we go next April. If anyone could share thoughts/experiences I'd appreciate it. THANKS

My DD also a strong swimmer was 11 last time down and wanted to do it but TL was closed for rehab (in Feb). We always go in Feb. so I don't know if she'll get the chance and it can be cold in Feb. :cold:

:bounce: I'll give this a bump though for others to respond.

We have not done it yet because we tried to book it for last April and it was completely booked- so call early, and I just tried to book it for Dec. and they close for rehab a day before we arrive :confused3

I have read great reviews on it though.

We did this when DS was only 8. He is also a strong swimmer. It was a lot of fun, but hard work - exhausting. DS ended up doing better than I did. We were both able to get up on the board, but couldn't "ride the wave" for very long. This is much more difficult than it looks on TV! If you are confident in his swimming skills, I say go for it. We were given graduation certificates at the end of the day. :cool2:

My DD19 did it a few years ago and she had a blast. There were about 10 people in the class ranging in age from 10 to 65 both male and female. The instructors are from Cocoa Beach and are very nice. By the end of the class she was able to get up and stay on the surf board without too much trouble. I would highly recommend this adventure.

A few things to know, you have to be there very early like 6am so I had to arrange for a cab to pick us up at the resort - Bell service helps arrange it the day before.

I was able to stay and watch, don't forget your camera or camcorder you can get some great shots. You are able to actually stay right up with the students and sit or walk along the wall where the lifeguards sit so you have a great view.

I am only sorry I didn't sign up for the class also, it would have been a blast.

I have to agree with the above posters. It is a lot of fun but exhausting. You have to be a good swimmer. My son did it when he was 10 but he was on swim team and practice daily.
