sure wish parents would watch their kids

That is a worry of mine....I am prone to motion sickness!
The ships we've been on (RCI, not Disney), I've never really felt any motion (aside from wind). However, I have had some cases, usually while in the cabin bathroom, where I got a little "light headed". Never felt motion, but maybe my body did.

I will be the contrarian and say if you want to try a cruise, try a line OTHER than Disney. I'm sure it's a great cruise, but MAN, the cost. You can get a much better cabin, on a longer cruise than what you can on Disney. If you want a "Disney Fix", hit the parks before/after/both.

This. I love Disney, but I can't justify the cost when I can get a longer cruise for a fraction of the price, in a better cabin. I cruise often, but DCL was one and done for me, I much prefer the parks for my Disney fix.

I’ve been shopping for my first cruise for years and am really struggling to pull the trigger. Most people who know me tell me I will get bored but I’ve wanted to try it since I was a kid. That being said, Disney was the the first line I ruled out. If we’re at sea and I’m bored I want to have a casino to fall back on to keep me entertained even if the odds are poor compared to land casinos.

we were at WDW last week-- we were on the bus coming back from disney springs on the 27th when a family got on two kids a boy and girl around 4 for the girl and 5 or so for the boy

they run to the very back of the bus sitting on the sideways seat while the parents? sit below by the back door--these kids were all over wrestling on the seats

looked over once the the boy was literly on top of the girl--that did not look good wonder where they saw this from--the dad is sitting in his seat laughing at the whole thing

never once did mom or dad try to control there kids--they also had a baby whom Im surprised they didnt have the other watch the baby--

wonder what they would have done if one of the kids feel and got hurt Im sure they would have tried to blame disney--

it just annoys me how parents just let their kids run wild

just a vent--thanks for listening

I agree. When you're on the bus, that's not the time to horse around. You want to chase each other, wrestle, and get all of your extra energy out? GREAT! Do that BEFORE and AFTER you're on the bus. But not while ON the bus.

and for the peanut gallery, yes, I have kids.

That's how I feel too. Not only is DCL a lot more expensive than other lines but I don't like the 3-4 day cruises, lack of drink package and boring Caribbean itineraries. My parents sailed on Celebrity this past September and really enjoyed that. I love Disney but I wouldn't do a Disney cruise.

Our DISer friends would love for us to go on a group cruise but they are really DCL peeps for the most part, they have expressed that they might be willing to try out Royal Caribbean.

I have little interest anymore in Caribbean cruises. Only cruise I've been on and my husband has been Caribbean when we were teens but in truth I'd rather just go to the island and stay there if I could. When we told our DISer friends DCL was cost prohibitive we were more meaning the value aspect of the product itself and it doesn't really suit our interests. That said I'm not saying never with DCL but it would have to be with our DISer group.

I get that. I went on Royal Caribbean when I was a teenager and liked it back then but not sure if I would now. I just remember the main pool being a "people soup". I'm not big on Caribbean cruises either and I probably wouldn't do a European one either since I would want to do a land vacation for that. I would do Alaska but from what I've read DCL is the most expensive option for Alaska.

If I want a Disney fix, I'll go to the parks.

For the RCI ships we have been on (Oasis, Freedom, Mariner), I have NEVER been bored. If that's a concern, I'd suggest trying a 3-4 day cruise and see how you like it.

A 4-day seems to be the sweet spot I’m looking for. Long enough that assuming I enjoy it I get my money’s worth but not too long that if I don’t enjoy it it won’t be a disaster.

I go into every piece of traveling I do with an open mind but also believe in having backup plans if necessary.

We adored our Disney cruises. (Memories got me through cancer treatment.) We’d like to do another one of these days. There are ways to save a little money when booking. Four days, for us, is too short. We do like going to the resorts afterward because leaving the ship is so hard. I can’t see us booking any other cruise line, no offense to anyone. (We have friends who are loyal to other lines but for us, it’s DCL.) Originally I thought I’d be seasick but it wasn’t a problem.

I have only sailed disney but I will say the itineraries matter a lot less to me than the ship does. I love the Dream and the Fantasy. Wish is fine but not my personal favorite.

The only thing with the shorter cruises is that they tend to be the older ships. They are perfectly acceptable, but the entertainment offerings aren't typically as good as newer ships.

I am with you, I love the casino. I have had good luck and bad luck on ships, but Vegas has really tightened the slots and blackjack on strip pays 6:5 unless you are on a high roller table so it's not vastly different.

I think the Bahamas and Caribbean is always boring. I've done a handful of European cruises, Hawaii, Alaska, Quebec for example. I like the port intensive cruises. The different itinerary's tend to have less kids, but a nice demographic from 6 months to 80+. What I like about DCL is that all ages are represented. I don't want to be on a ship with all old people or all young partiers.

They probably prefer this than posters insulting each other. I do agree with you about the Wish. It was not my favorite either.

Love that this thread has morphed into a cruise thread! Just adding to the cruise discussion: I would love to cruise Disney. We're planning an Alaska trip with my GS. I priced out Disney, NCL, Celebrity... Well Disney is almost double (if not more) than the other two. So guess who we're sailing with. I know my GS would love the Disney ship, but NCL has a lot of fun stuff going on, and he'll get his fill of characters at WDW.

DCL was 4 times my RCCL cruise out of Rome. In fairness DCL did discount all of their European cruises. It's now only double the cost. RCCl was a better itinerary because it includes Israel and Turkey. Hopefully things stay calm in the middle east. Israel is always kind of iffy and cruise lines are super risk adverse.

The only thing about the kids wrestling on the bus that would concern me would be someone getting hurt...whether it was other kids nearby getting accidentally kicked or the little wrestlers themselves getting hurt because the bus braked hard or something. And honestly, I am glad the parents were at least on the bus...I have been at some of the hotels where there were groups of (what appeared to be) unsupervised kids who were getting rowdy at the food courts. They weren't completely out of control but all I could think of was Lord of the Flies lol

The only thing that really gets me whipped in to a lather at the parks is when people bother the ducks/cranes/rabbits/whatever animal happens to be there. I don't care if you are a kid or an adult, kicking the ducks or attempting to hurt the wildlife is uncalled for and is one of the only times I will say something.

Very true. One of the trips we took was at the end of April - said never going back again then. Lots of school kids on trips (visitors) or nights out (locals) with little supervision.

We were on a monorail one night and some tween boys were trying to pry open the doors from the inside while we were moving. From their jackets we could see that they were from near us back home. DH stood up and told them to knock it off. Fortunately they listened. (Today he might‘ve gotten cold cocked.)

We also had a group of unsupervised kids rocking our boat on Pirates and other groups making out and feeling eachother up in the line for Haunted Mansion. Made it an unpleasant experience.

Animal abuse would be my line in the sand, too. I haven’t seen it at Disney other than maybe a kid chasing a bird or something, but we went horseback riding in Aruba and kids on the farm were throwing rocks at chickens and hitting the horses (and telling us to). 😢
