My mother always goes to Europe with her sisters for a week or two every spring. Usually while she is gone my dad and I try and do something fun. In the past that has meant heading up to Disneyland for the day.

Well my dad gets home from work yeasterday and says, "I was thinking we should go to Disney World while mom is gone." It took me a moment to process what he was saying, and then another 2 seconds to start dialing the phone to make reservations.

We will be going April 22-25. I was able to get POFQ for $89, and I also made a backup reservation at the Dolphin using the teacher rate. It was a nice suprise that these rates are still available.

Well I was discussing my plans with dad today and I asked him if he could stay anywhere on Disney property where would it be? He immediatly replied the Wilderness Lodge. And using the room only codes it is just within our budget. So I called to try and swich my FQ reservation, but WL is only avail. at rack rate, and we're just not willing to pay that. So I will keep calling, otherwise I think we will stay at FQ and have a fabulous time!

Who else has been surised with a Disney trip? I would love to hear your stories!

Sounds great! I hope you have a great time. I love those unexpected trips there the best ones!

We surprised our DD this February with a surprise trip for her 10th birthday. It was so hard for me not to tell her for 5 months! I am so bad at keeping secrets.

Since we were expecting bad weather the night before, we decided to stay at a hotel next to the airport. When she got home from school, we told her we had an early birthday present for her. I gave her a bag with a stuffed Stitch holding an envelope with Disney Dollars (for her to spend on the trip) and a book about Disney for Kids. You could tell she didn't understand what it meant. She was like thank you, when can I go to the Disney store to go shopping. I said "do you understand what the book is for?" She said no, so I said "you can look at it and see what you want to do when we get to Disney World tomorrow!" Her mouth just dropped (I have a great picture of it). She looked down at the book, then up again and didn't say anything for about 30 seconds. Finally, she said "are you serious!" Then she started yelling "I can't believe it, we're going to Disney!!" I can honestly say that was the first time DD was ever speechless.:teeth:

We had a great time, I think this was our best trip yet.:)

I am surprising my 11 DS Monday with a trip to the World. I have almost slipped a couple of times. We are going to video me waking him up Monday morning and saying "We're going to Disney World today!". I think the look on his face will be more precious than the actual trip.

It has only been planned for about 6 weeks so I haven't had to keep it secret too long.

We're surprising dd this Thursday too!!! It's really really short notice, we just decided on Wednesday that we were going. We got POR for 3/18/-3/21. Just a short trip to hold us over until the end of July when we take our long trip. We're just going to wake her up on Thursday moring and tell her then. I'm having such a hard time keeping it a secret, all I want to do is talk about it.

Have a great trip!

We did a suprise trip last Dec. Actually, it was a suprise for all of us. On a Friday morning I was sitting here reading the Dis Boards, and I told dh I wished we were going to WDW for his vacation the next week. He looked at me like I was crazy, told me I had just been in Sept., and no way were we going back right now--too close to Christmas, blah, blah, blah. I didn't really mean that I thought we should go back to WDW right then--I was just wishful thinking!;) Well.......dh called from his cell on his way to work and said go ahead and call WDW and see what kind of room you can get, remember we're on a budget, etc,. I was on the phone with CRO at 7:30 that morning! I got POR, our hoppers, and our MVMCP tickets. I took ds (4) to school, went to work until noon, came home, packed and loaded the car. Dh picked ds up from school. When they got home we hopped in the car and left. :D We had been driving for about 15-20 minutes before ds asked where we were going. We asked him if he could go anywhere in world, where would he want to go. Of course he said WDW! When we told him that was where we were going, he was so excited! He just kept saying over and over, "I can't believe we're going to Disney World and it's not even our turn!" We've had to tell him that we have to wait our "turn" to go to WDW or he wants to go every day! We had been telling him that our next turn wasn't until he was 5! He was sooooo excited!

Anyway, it turned our to be one of our best trips yet. We had no plans, no ps's, no anything, and it was great! Everything just sort of fell into place once we got there!

Go and have fun! I know you and your dad will have a wonderful time!:earsgirl:

that book like above mentioned sounds like it might be right up her alley

the book is Brinbaums For Kids By Kids, I purchased it a few months ago for my DD's who are 6 and 7, and it's all dogeared etc.. now, they've got things circled, highlighted it's a great tool for them to help plan what they think they might be interested in, as its our 1st trip, they havent a clue what to expect, so with this book, at least they know what to expect somewhat.

I love surprising my Dad! Our May trip will be his 4th Disney surprise. But the first (and best) surprise has to be his b-day trip in 1999.

We flew down to Disney (we live in Kentucky) for 1 night so that I could take him to V&A's for his birthday!

We had eaten there the year before during his first trip to WDW for his 70th b-day. When the next year rolled around I really wanted to take him back there for dinner again, but couldn't get off from work to take him on a real trip. So instead I told him that I was taking him to a special restaurant for his b-day, but that it was a "little far away" so we would stay overnight near the restaurant and return home the next morning. I told him to pack a suit and an overnight bag, and that was all the info he had to go on.

I had a terrible time keeping the secret during the month before the trip, and even resorted to bold-faced lying to make sure he didn't figure out where we were going. He asked me what city we were flying to. I said "Flying? We're not flying! What gave you that idea?" I was so convincing that he decided that we must be driving to St Louis (we have family there).

When the big day came, we packed our small bags and nice clothes and hopped in the car. Dad settled in for the long drive to "St. Louis" (about 5 hours). When we approached the airport (about 8 minutes from our house) I pretended to have left something at home and said I would need to turn around and go back for it. As we pulled off the interstate at the airport exit, I said "You wouldn't believe what I forgot." "What?" said Dad with his innocent, gullable mind imagining that I had left my cash, credit card, or directions at home. "I forgot to tell you that your daughter is a bold faced liar! We ARE flying!" I believe that that's the only time my father ever referred to his youngest offspring as a "dirty-dog." That's okay. I can take it.

I still didn't tell him where we were going. It wasn't until we got to the security check point inside the terminal that I presented him with his calligraphy invitation for dinner from "your good friends, Victoria and Albert." He knew exactly what that meant. I will NEVER forget that moment as he realized where we were going. He started to cry right there at the security gate. (I'm actually teary typing this).

We had a wonderful meal that night and a fun breakfast at Cape May the next morning before catching a noon flight back to Louisville.

I continue to try to surprise him, but we both know that I will never surpass that moment at the security gate. To this day, we refer to a Disney surprise as "turning off for the airport."

I can't wait to tell him at the end of the May cruise that we're turning off for the airport again!

We surprised our three children this past Christmas. What we did was pack their suitcases with things they would normally bring to WDW. We then wrapped the suitcases in Christmas wrapping paper. When they went to sleep on Christmas Eve, the work for hubby and I was just beginning. While we were waiting for the kids to fall asleep, hubby and I went into the garage and packed everything but the kids suitcases (we had everything else hidden in the garage to make it easier and less noise going in and out of the garage.

Once that was done, we made sure the kids were asleep, and put their wrapped suitcases under the tree, in the back. We also had a couple other gifts like new gameboy SPs and other activities that would keep them busy on the way down (we were driving for the first time).

Luckily, one of the kids woke up at 4:30 and we gave him permission to wake up the other two at 5:00.

We had just been to Disney in August so they had NO CLUE what was about to happen. You should have seen the looks on their faces when they unwrapped the suitcases. They were totally confused. I told them to unzip the suitcases and they acknowledged it was all their Disney stuff. My two older started to say we have a funny feeling about something and then my daughter looked up at me so cute and asked if we were going back to Disney. I said yes. She said hurray - when?! I said how about right now. My middle child said that's OK - I don't want to go right now. I was in shock! I said well mommy and daddy are going right now, who's coming? They all then started to get the picture and became very excited! Come to find out my middle son was upset because he wouldn't be able to bring his new SP. Once I told him Santa had already charged the gameboy and their was a car charger waiting in the Explorer, he was the first one out there.

I think the kids were in shock all the way to North Carolina! It was a great trip. We were able to get a last-minute AP rate of $277 at AKL concierge. It was wonderful.

P.S. We were on the road by 6:00 a.m.!

In 2002 we were planning a trip with our DD. They knew about that trip. What they didn't know was their Mom and I were planning the trip for all 7 of us. They didn't tell them until they got to the airport. We had our 2 year old holding a sign saying "Do you want to come to Disney with us?" The oldest was 8 at the time so he read it and looked completely confused. They thought they were dropping their Dad off on a business trip so they were surprised just to see us at the airport.

So he asked what that sign meant and his Mom sprang it on him. They were beside themselves. They kept saying, "you mean now! Today! But what about my stuff?" They didn't believe it until we were all sitting on the airplane. It was a riot.

Hi,

Have a great trip!!!

my parents surprised my brother and i when we were younger..i was probably 8 he was 6...it was easter and they made us go on a scavenger hunt to find our easter baskets....well when we got to the end, we ended up in the room we were sharing and were instructed to look under our pillows...of course, you cant fit a basket under there, so we lifted the pillows and found fanny packs...when we opened them, there was all this disney stuff....
we left the next day!
