OK. I'm going to get serious with this chip now. I haven't even gone on-line enough to figure out how to do a challenge so I think you are way ahead of me on that. Let me talk to my friend tomorrow and figure out how to do this. You and I are both in winter climates. Are you running outdoors at this point? I have moved inside to a treadmill. I was thinking of trying to continue with some outdoor runs though, so this will give me incentive.

I would love to run outside since I haven't gotten serious using outside. Right now we have lots of snow and it was -3 yesterday. I would say I'll be using the treadmill for now. I may pay for a vistor pass to the other gym in town but not often just to take a break and use the inside track. I'll keep checking in. Thanks...I hope this extra support will keep pushing me! I seem to always do great in Nov and Dec but half way into Jan I slow down and then stop. Terrible habit but I'm going to break it this time!

thanks for all the info....I didn't see the W.I.S.H. until someone said to check it out. Can't believe I didn't see it before...tells ya how busy I get and just skim over things. I would love to go to Disney in January to run. We're planning a trip in 2011 but I don't think I'll be ready by then.

You have PLENTY of time to be ready before then!!!!! No need to wait another year unless you were trying to win the event.:thumbsup2

guess I'm just nervous I won't be able to at least finish. Plus $$$....to take our family of 5 to WDW for a trip takes at least 2 years to save. I only take a trip once we have saved for it. I hate putting vacations on credit cards.

well that's different. :thumbsup2

But at your present pace, there really is no reason that you could not be ready at that time.

Most training programs are 10-20 weeks depending on whether it is a half or full and your job is to get in shape (meaning, cardio shape and not looking like an Olympian ;)) prior to the start of that.

I found Pilates or any other core execise program is essential for the runner/walker.

You can definitely do it. I second the recommendation for "Marathoning for Mortals".

As far as doing it on your own, I run on my own. I've done 7 or so half marathons and am running my second full at Disney in January. I did my first full by myself as well.

Yes, there's always mommy guilt to deal with when spending time on your own, but I promise your kids will be okay and you'll be better.

My friend used a Nike+ and just switched to a Garmin. She said the Garmin showed her that the Nike+ wasn't very accurate. I don't use either, I just map out my runs on gmap-pedometer.com and use a Timex Ironman watch.

Good luck!

I use to do Pilates years ago after my first child. I found it to be great. I loved the results. I'll have to check at walmart and see if they sell any DVD's. My copy is old. It's on VHS and I don't own a VHS player anymore.
