Supplements for senior dogs

Do any of you give your senior dogs supplements (vitamins, etc) ? If so what do you give them?

I have a large breed 9 y/o. He's a retired woking dog and has lotsa miles on him. He gets lots of omega fish oil suplements for his joints. He also gets bufferred bio-C sprinkled on his ground-up turkey to help his immune system. He still makes his daily 3 mile wal...eer dragging dad outing.

Cosequin - which is a glucosamine & chondroitin pill. I have seen an amazing difference in my Brittany, who is 11 years old, since he started on this supplement. He gets up from a laying position like a puppy and I have seen him hurdle our garden wall again without so much as a second thought. I was amazed! It's knocked a few years off of him for sure.

Our 16 year old Yorkie has been taking Synovi G3 Soft Chews for the past several years. They are a vitamin/joint health supplement that 2 different vets have recommended.

Yes - Synovi G3 Soft Chews , a nutritional supplement w/ Glucosamine, Omega 3 Fatty Acids, Antioxidants, and other vitamins and minerals. It seemed to give her a boost when we first started it about 2 years ago. Not particularly expensive - you can find it on the net (think I used Entirely Pets) for ~ $.40/chew. And we finally started her on Rimadyl last winter when she really had trouble getting around. There's no doubt that has helped a lot, but be aware that this drug does have some potential side effects. Given that our dog is almost 14yo, I'm not too concerned about the side effects shortening her life at this point.

As long as your dog is comfortable and happy, you are doing the right thing!

We have a local store that has a holistic pet nutritionist. They make homemade dog food and also certain suppliment products. I think they are online; try looking up HappyDog Healthy Dog. They are going national. My dog with cancer that is 15 years old is doing wonderfully on their products.

Where do you purchase these pills?

PetsMart! The dog trainer that I worked with when I took my new puppy in for "basic" training recommended them for my older Brittany. She said they use the same brand for her horses and the horses also get amazing results.

They are in a white opaque bottle with a blue/white label. They are packaged according to your dog's size/weight. They are shaped liked little bones and my dog actually begs for them. They are liver flavored or something. It's made an amazing difference.

We use Joint Health Chewables made by Springtime, Inc. which has glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate in it. Used it for about the last 4-5 years for our large (100 lb.) mixed breed and he lived to 15 1/2. We now have a larger dog (130 lbs.) and we have her on it even though she's only 4. I'm convinced it helped our first dog tremendously and they are a great company to do business with.
