[Horizons16]

Is this attraction still at DCA? I had heard awhile back that it was gone and then i heard it was still there... i know that a lot of people didnt like the ride but i still wanted to see what it was all about...

It is listed as closed for refurbishment and has been for the last 3 visits to DLR (starting Feb 2002). We saw it in Jan 2001 and felt it was the worst attraction we had been on in a disney park.
We made this comment at an exit interview in Jan 2001 (DCA preview).

They have not changed the exterier of the building and the name still is on the building and the maps.

It's done. You missed nothing. Only interesting thing was seeing your borded disgusted expression on a TV monitor on the way out. There's never been a more poorly done themed attraction anywhere.

It has been "down for rehab" for almost a year and most do not expect it to come back. I assume that it is still sitting in there unused and unchanges. I didn;t think is was as bad as most people but it was not a great or magical ride. There was a couple of funny moments but in general it was just kind of odd.

There's a rumor that "Limo" will be rehabed to contain more Disney Characters, instead of B-rank Hollywood stars, but with the amount of red ink DCA is bleeding & other unfavorable press, don't expect to see it any time soon.

I'd bet on the ride remaining closed for the duration.

Actually I think the pictures make it look a bit better in some ways. When on the ride it is very well lit and you can look up a bit and the sets stop and you can see the ceiling, sort of like in it's a small world. But the picturs don't convey the amount of movement there is and how the scenes are mostly continuous.

Well those were good photos...

But the site says its the best dark ride... How come some many people said it was junk? I mean i see with the whole set stopping and ceiling begining but thats a little detail. What was the big staple that made people want to get off so bad.

See. I think the problem was that it is a very cynical ride and it is not magical in any sense of the word like going on Peter Pan or Pinocchio or Haunted Mansion or Pirates or even Spaceship Eart and Horizons. It's story is not classic with ups and downs with your emoptions and a scary part and a climax. It is a toungue in cheek cynical ride through southern California with alot of "in" jokes that people out of the area might not get. It is not terrible. Just way different from what Disney has done before and alot of people didn't like the attempt at Disney being different. I was not enthused with it and it doesn't bother me if they take it away but it would be better if it was still open.

I remember reading (on Laughingplace.com, I think) that it was supposed to be a fast dark ride on the order of Mr Toad. Originally the premise was that you were on your way to an audition and were rushing to get away from hordes of paparrazi (sp?). Unfortunately, at the time the ride was being designed, Princess Diana was killed trying to escape the press and it was felt it would be in bad taste to keep the ride the way it was intended. At the time, I agree. By the time DCA opened I think it could have been a fast ride and most people wouldn't have made the Di connection. I rode it and had no desire to do so again. There just wasn't much to it.

Never got to ride Rocket Rods. Weren't they open for all of about ten minutes (and from what I hear, we're not talking consecutive minutes either)?
