I have just been reading one of the many Disney books I have bought prior to our trip and the author suggested the following about supermarkets.
He stated that Goodlings supermarket was like the designer supermarket and the better prices for general items was had at a supermarket chain called Publix.
We have usually shopped at or Goodlings for any bits and pieces we need (usually water by the gallons!!!)Where is Publix, we are staying in Down Town Disney area, No car ,I can't convince myself that I could drive on the wrong side of the road!!Now I am not into penny pinching especially on holiday but the price comparisons he gave was almost half the price.

Yes Publix is cheaper than Goodings. A rough comparison would be Marks and Spencer to Tesco. If you can find a Winn Dixie, they are even cheaper (Kwiksave!), I'm afraid I can't help with your location, but I know someone here will.;)

Goodings is pricey. Publix is my favorite supermarket chain; I wish we had them here (Virginia). There is one on International Drive at Exit 64B. It's probably about four miles from WDW. We always have a car with us, so it's no big deal. I guess you could take taxi. I know what mean about driving. The thought of getting behind the wheel in the UK makes me quake.

Hi Rain

I have used both supermarkets and agree that Publix is cheeper
but alas I also don't know the nearest to you, but there is a Publix situated at th end of the 192 near the I17.
Hope this is some help

We go to Goodings first thing - about 6.00am as we're awake - and buy essentials like candy and a few other reminders of our favourites, and then later on go to Publix to stock up on snacks, cans & bottles etc. for real shopping

Which location is the Publix in please, I am getting confused with the Road numbers (another reason I do not drive;) whilst in Orlando)

I'm terrible at directions, so I hesitate on giving any. You can find lots of info on Publix at www.publix.com. Honestly, all you have to do is drive around, there's a Publix on every corner.

The one I'm speaking of is on International Drive, very close to where it intersects wtih Osceola Parkway and the near the Gaylord Palms Center (hotel with a big palm tree on it). I leave WDW on the road (can't remember the name) that has the Wide World of Sports on my left. The I go down until I hit Osceola Parkway (not very far), veer left, and then a right onto International Drive. It's not very far at all. If you get lost, just stop at a service station and ask directions. Have I totally confused you?

A new Publix looked due to open when we were out there in June this year. The location is almost opposite the LBV Premium Outlets which if memory serves me correctly is on Vineland Ave just off the 535 which goes past Crossroads.
Hope this helps.
