Supermarket

So I know that I am way early in the planning stage but...I will be going to OKW in January and I am not renting a car (just a lazy week with the girls) and I was wondering if anyone know what the closest Supermarket is to OKW. Specifically a Non-Disney Supermarket or better yet a Walmart Superstore. Also any ideas about the cost of a taxi from the resort to the supermarket.

For the cost of the RT taxi, you would be better off to use one of the grocery delivery services, like Garden Grocer.

We stayed at OKW at the end of May and asked the CM at check-in for the location of a grocery store. She sent us to a Winn-Dixie about 10 minutes away. Based on cab fare from MK to Universal, it will probably be at least $25 each way.

I have read somewhere that you can rent a car for 24 hrs for less than the cost of the cab there and back. You could rent from the on-site location at the Swan and Dolphin. Take the boat or bus to DTD and bus to BCV and walk to S&D you can have the car for 24hrs so it you get it mid morning you won't have to get up to early to return it.

I agree with Vicki C. Garden Grocer is the only way to go. You can order everything on line and if you want something you dont' see on line you can just call, they will include it in your order. They deliver directly to your hotel for a reasonable fee (I think like $13-$15) and a tip should be included for the delivery person. The front desk will even store your frozen/cold itmes. The food is a little overpriced but not terrible. We always use the service and have never had anything but a good experience. For us the convienience is worth the few extra dollars (say over Walmart) just for the time it saves.

If you are just interested in snacks and stuff, you can also ship a box down before you arrive. We do this because DD has to have Gluten-free snacks and with us doing the shopping we know exactly what she's getting.

The closest Wal-Mart is a supercenter on SR 535/Vineland Road. Directions from OKW to the store are here. This store is almost exactly the same distance from OKW as Winn Dixie is.

I do agree you could probably rent a car for the day for less than the cost of the cab back and forth. If you are flying in, maybe check the rate for picking up at the airport or dropping off at one of the Disney locations (Dolphin, Car Care Center, etc).

Did Garden Grocer last time we were there. Would do it again in a heartbeat. It is so worth the delivery fee for the convenience (I'm not the worlds greatest at spelling).
