Is there a supermarket in the Universal area?

Are the refrigerators in the garden view rooms at Portofino big enough to put things in?

YES. A few minutes from Universal is a shopping center with a K-mart and several other stores. I believe there is a supermarket in there *isn't 100% sure*. If not, the K-mart will suffice.

To get there, you take Turkey Lake Rd down to it and it will be on the left.

That depends on your definition of "walking distance"

I'd say it's about a mile from Turkey Lake Rd, so add that to whatever the distance is from HRH to Turkey Lake.

I am from the Northeast, so I have never heard of this.
Is this a supermarket or more like a K-Mart/Walmart?

I read on other boards to stay away from stores that say "Supermarket" or "Grocers", as they are more expensive, is this true?

Is there a Wal-mart nearby?

Publix is the supermarket chain down there. Do not hesitate to go in. I went to a HUGE Walmart when I was down there. I want to say it was on Sand Lake Ave? I think it was about five miles away. Definatley not walking distance.

There's a Publix on Kirkman Avenue. There's also a Super Wal-Mart at the corner of John Young Parkway and Sand Lake.

The Walmart is located just north of Publix at

No, you can't walk. If you have a rental car, it's no problem, you go north on Kirkman road and you'll find the stores. If you don't have a rental car, you tell the driver you're going to make a stop before going to your hotel. Then you buy a styrofoam cooler (located in the beer isle), beer, wine, snacks, milk, juice, and doughnuts. Publix also has a deli that makes great subs.

To get there go out of the Portafino and make a right. Go down to the traffic light (Vineland Rd) and make a right. Go down to the next traffic light (Kirkman Rd) make a left. About 3/4 mile down the road at the corner of Kirkman and Conroy is the Publix, make a left on Conroy and then the right into the plaza. If you keep going down the road (Kirkman) about 4 miles you will see a sign for Windermere on the left you will need to make the left there and then make the first right you will get into the Wal-Mart. If you pass Valencia CC you've gone too far.

Yes Publix is about a mile away and the Wal-Mart is about 5 miles away.

Here's a tip: Go to Publix and get a couple subs...take them into the parks with you to save some money on meals. A half of a sub is very large and so if you get a whole, it can easily feed 2 people. They are great too...but subs anywhere!

(Publix is THE grocery store down here...better quality food than at Wal*Mart, by far)

My parents did the sub thing once and we went to Wal*Mart later that evening. It was a short drive (but definitely not walking distance...).


Mmmmmm....Publix subs....haven't had one in a while...

Glad to hear someone agrees with me about the Publix subs. They are da bomb.

Yes, it will take you an extra hour to visit the store and shop, but the reward is a great lunch, and a cooler full of beer/wine afterwards when you come back to your hotel room.

The HRH concierge has pre-printed directions to Wal-Mart. Maybe they also have directions for Publix.
