I take loads of video on my vacations (17 hours worth on the last WDW trip) and then edit onto VHS tapes. My VCR seems to be getting old and the transfer picture is not as great as it use to be. I have done some investigation and it looks like Super VHS is the way to go for now. Does anyone have much experience with this? Can you play Super VHS tapes on a regular non super vhs vcr? I tend to make a couple different versions of a vacation and send them to others in the party. Can you play older tapes edited on a regular VCR on the Super VHS player?
I know the best option for me is to buy at digital Camcorder and new computer and edit it all digitally (which I am looking forward to) but cannot pay for all of that for a couple more years.
Thanks for any help.

The difference in a super vhs is the availability of an S-Video connection vs the standard composite RCA video connection. This will provide a better picture. I don't think they are totally compatible, that is to say that VHS tapes can be played on Super, but Super are not reverse compatible with reg VHS. So if yo are recording on the new one you can't share with reg-vhs users. There is yet another option, and that is a HIGH Definition VCR (with componenet video connections), but they are pricey and in all fairness for $100 more, I'd rather have the DVD burner. Why not get a video capture card and burn them onto CD. CD-Burners are cheap, under $100 and a vid capture card can't be too much these days either. Obviously we'd all love to go for the DVD burner, but it's too pricey for me to justify buying. In you rcase though with 17 hours of Vacation Video...if it was me, I'd consider it. I normally do only about 2-3 hours vacation video so it's an easier decision for me to say it costs too much. For 17 hours, I'd probably go for it.

Thanks for the info. I do A LOT of editing and cut the 17 hours in half. I like to be fairly percise with my cuts which, I am sure, doing digitally on a computer will be great. I plan on getting a whole new computer in a couple years so don't want to pay to do anything to the current one. I am going to have to think this out a bit more. Maybe if I cancel my next WDW trip I can buy the computer sooner!!!! :)
