From the Orlando Sentinel:

Another last call: this time it's Super Soap

Disney has announced that this year's Super Soap Weekend (Nov. 15-16 at Disney's Hollywood Studios) will be the last such event. Instead, ABC will embark on a "Soap Nation Tour" in 2009. That will be several events nationwide in different cities.

"The new year will bring new ways we will involve our stars in more events, in more cities, more often," Brian Frons, head of ABC Daytime, said in a release. The specific events listed are a three-day cruise (from Los Angeles to Mexico), contests with a trip to New York and Broadway Cares and participation in the CMA Music Festival. The release says more "fan experiences" will be announced in the new year.

Man, maybe it's time to vacation somewhere else.....

( I won't, but man...)

Exactly, you won't and so since no one else will either, Disney has no negative impact by cutting things back--so long a we keep paying up there is no incentive for them to have to do more, be better, etc.

Trust me as someone who use to go it's nuts. They had tons of people there that sometimes I went they had to close the park.

Pleasure Island really upset me now Super Soap weekend too??? I look forward to it every year . My daughter and I have been to it so many times and look forward to it every year. The place is packed and we always see the same people every year which is fun too. I can't imagine the stars are happy about this -they always seem to have a great time along with the fans. Why wouldn't they??? They are treated like rock stars the entire weekend and get to perform their musical talents up on a huge stage with a huge crowd who just love them to pieces!!!
Disney... I did not renew my annual passes this year and instead of coming six times I cancelled and only came twice. I am so sick of the cut backs everywhere and decline in customer service.
This is a huge mistake . November right before the holidays is dead down there but that weekend many many people come to Super Soap Weekend. He place is sold out!!!
This is a huge mistake on both Disney and ABC's part. I have been to the touring things they run as well in New York and it does not compare to this fun girl bonding weekend. BOO I am really mad !

I know that Super Soap was very crowded and could get too crazy but my daughter and I just took a deep breath and had fun! We expected the big crowds and the fanatical fans (a few not the majortity) but it (at it's very least) was pure fun and some of the best people watching you'll ever see in your life!!! My Mom came one year and opted to sit and drink those blue "glowtinis" and just watch from afar. She said it was so fun to see all the excited fans and the many ,many Moms and daughter, groups of teen girls, and groups of adult women just having a ball at all they offerred at Super Soap. My daughter and I especially loved going shopping in the venue they had set up with all of the old wardrobe. we bought some great outfits over the years!! Some we actually saw the stars wearing in Soap Opera magazine at certain events as well as remembered from the shows.
Sure it had it's flaws and there were things that I got miffed about during the weekend, but over all everyone had a blast. I wish I could make a difference and get that point across to the decision makers....
When will I ever have the chance to ever kiss Tad Martin again??? Where could I ever get picked to do a love scene with Ryan up on stage ending in a big kiss and hug??? When will I run into Robert Scorpio in the Flying Fish and exchange sexy glances across a crowded restaurant-then blowing a kiss?? When will Iever get to be on the same plane as Erica (Susan Lucci) heading down to Florida and gushing with her about the weekend to come??(that happend to me two times) Also meeting Bobby Spencer, Dillon, and Walt Willy out in Epcot just having fun or at the bars and restaurants??
We ate dinner next to OLTL's cast members , Susan Luccis' hairdresser and make-up artists who had a nice conversation with my daughter and I on at the Flying Fish late Sunday night after the weekend had ended!
I can't believe they are not going to have it anymore....

It seems like the 10 year and over rule may apply here. Official Disneyana Conventions 10 years and no more. Super Soap Weekends 10 years & no more. F & W festival, well that made it past 10 but at 13 major cutbacks to events and free seminars that were well attended in the past. I guess the end is probably near for Star Wars Weekends too. They always use the excuse that they have new Ideas to bring better but different events based on guest surveys. Once something they promote becomes more than they can manage they bring it to an end. I was dragged unwillingly to the last night of SSW a couple of years ago and the crowds were much worse than the Millenium NYE in Epcot. I couldn't wait to get out of there, I am not a big Soap fan. I haven't attended SWW for the last couple of years because it seems that whatever they do to make that one more managable a couple of years later they end up having to change because the crowds keep growing each year. I am a huge Star Wars Fan but I can't stand how crowded SWW has become and they keep picking later dates each year and it is just too hot for me at WDW in June.

The one good thing about that was it kept a lot of bodies out of the other parks and over in Disney/MGM/Disney/Studios during it's run.

Got to agree with that. Folks keep goin' and payin', they keep cuttin' back and raisin' prices. We live 86 miles away, and we have cut W-A-A-A-y back on our visits. Don't go folks. Let 'em stew in their juices for a while.

I have to be honest here, I've never cared less about a decision Disney has made.
