It seems like Carnival Cruise line is introducing a new device that is based on MB technology, but boosted to another level. http://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/04/b...e-medallion-that-records-your-every-whim.html or this one on USA Today; http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/...llions-replace-keys-wallets-tickets/96132642/

Very interesting reading for a techie. And much (all?) of what they are proposing could also be done with today's MB and its "long" range RFID.

So, what's the verdict? Great idea? Creepy? Invasion of my privacy?

Privacy in a device of this sort is a very fluid concept. We have the ability to chose whether the convenience is worth disclosing the information needed to participate (at until our feline overlords install internal RFID chips).

These days, I'm much more concerned about security. The technology resembles the "keyless" technology many car companies have adopted, technology that, from what I have read, is not all that difficult to hack. At least with magic bands, purchases can only be made after entering a personal code (or so I seem to recall).

Very interesting, @OKW Lover, thanx for sharing. I would not mind participating in this at all. The "customization and ease" it promises to bring to my experience would be worth an opt-in small step into my "private info bubble" to me, IMHO.

Thanx for your usual eloquent and reasonable take on things, @jcb.

@WebmasterJohn - ROTFL!! Good one - I always love your sense of humor!! :)

Very cool. Given DCL's totally absurd pricing these days, we have been more actively looking at the other lines (we're actually going on a Norwegian cruise for the first time next month). We are particularly interested in going on Carnival's Vista (likely in 2018) - which looks incredible. It will only make me want to try that ship even more if they will have the medallions/app in place by then.
