Seize the day Goofs, fall has arrived and Goofy will be here before you know it!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

October already...busy birthday month!

question..I am following a 10 week half marathon training schedule, and know I am going to miss one of the long runs (the 10 miler)...should I re-do the week so I can get it in, and cut off the last week (that has tapering) or just skip that one run and go on with it?

Skip the week (unless you can make up the long run by doing it a few days earlier or later), but keep the taper. That's what I would do.

Shan Hope Friday brings the resolution you are looking for in a positive way.

Steve When my kids were young, we took a trip to Olympic peninsula. where we saw Tsunami warning signs. Freaked them out, and for a portion of the trip they were convinced it was going to happen. We still have a picture of one of the signs!

Went to the gym today to do XT class-slighlty misinterpreted what the class was. Why do these always kick my BOO-ty (sorry Lisa!) I mean, I can run 10 miles and still feel fine, but the day after one of these classes--Owee!

Cute name for this month's thread, Lisa! I think (I hope) I'm back from the DL. I did two slow miles on the TM yesterday. I had a little swelling afterward, but no pain or bruising. I'm going to try meeting up with my running group tomorrow. I'm scheduled to go 11 miles, but I'm thinking 4-6 would be better since I want to ease my way back. I look forward to adding some miles and minutes this month!

Hi all!

Taper madness has set in! Dh is loving it though because my house is clean, the closets are organized and the laundry is FINALLY caught up (ok well, maybe its a load away now...)

I leave for Chicago on Friday morning and I think I am starting to get psyched for the race.

Today was a maintenance 10 miler and it was perfect running weather. However my knees were feeling twingy so we cut it to an 8.5 miler to avoid more hills which seemed to be upsetting my knees. Sure enough as soon as we turned around, they were fine.

Angie - I would try to work the 10 miler in somehow. Personally, I only do about a 4 day taper for a half - I usually run 12 to 14 the week prior. And for my first half, which was the first time I ever ran 13 miles, I didn't taper at all. However, you have done this before so you know your body best and you know whether you need the taper more than the run. Just remember that the closer to race day you get, the more you think you need to train so make your decision now ans stick to it.

Hey Goofs,

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I just ran a 5K this morning. It was my first run since starting PT on my knee. I was a little nervous about it as I haven't run on the pavement since my last race in August. I felt great the entire time and ran a comfortable but quick-for-me pace. I credit losing five pounds recently as well as all the spinning classes and elliptical hours I've been logging but it felt so much easier than my last few races.

I shaved 2:58 off of last year's time for this race and finished with an 8:05 pace. That was only 41 seconds slower than my 5K PR so I was really happy about that.

I'm getting off the roads again until my next race in two weeks. It's hard to restrict myself to the treadmill but I don't want to push it too much too quickly and re-aggravate my knee.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hey all,

11 miles for me today. Doesn't matter what the training plan says, I seem to end up running them the same pace. Since the pace is pretty decent, I guess I'll just keep on plugging away as I ramp up. I figure as long as I'm comfortable, that's what matters.

Since I'm running RFTT next Sunday, I guess I'll move my 12 miler to Wednesday to get it in before I go. We'll see how that works out!

Kim How did your run go? Did you stick with your 4-6 or do the 11?

Steve Congrats on your 5k. I'm sure you feel better mentally now that you ran well with no knee problems. Slow and steady!

Maura

I did 11 miles today too! Legs are pretty tight tonight. Still haven't figured out the right amount to eat first either, around mile 8 my tummy was growling!

Had a race yesterday, first 1.25 miles were up a hill, I hate hills...and it rained the whole time and was 52 degrees, but I got my bling at the end!

OK, I'm back. I've been MIA since August. No excuses, but here is my life during the latter part of the summer:

Early Aug., the organization I work for was asked to run all of the sponsorship as well as volunteer recruitment and management for 2 Extreme Makeover: Home Edition builds in our area. (Yes, the TV show. No I didn't get to meet Ty.) I was one of the project leads. We had 4 weeks to recruit and organize 3,300 volunteers, raise $200K, train volunteer leads, find 10K+ donated meals, dumpsters, golf carts, port-a-potties, etc. It was absolutely insane. We worked 16 hour days for 4 weeks and lived onsite, basically working 24 hours, during the week of the build. And oh yeah, it is a "very special" episode of EM:HE - they built a house and a community center 5 miles apart during the same week - we ran both.

After that I went on vacation!

Two weeks later, DH and I flew down to WDW last week for a long, adult only weekend to run (swim?) EEC. We were in Wave 8, so we were just about finished with the 5k when the skies opened up. We actually had a great time on the sloppy, slippery obstacle course & answered all of our clues correctly, even though they had stopped checking by the time we finished. We ran as "Adventurer's Club Alumni Association" and heard lots of fun comments about our t-shirts.

Now I feel a bit like Captain Hook - only my tick-tock-tick-tock is that silly WDW 1/2 marathon I signed up for 8 months ago.

Tick-tock-tick-tock.

I really need to start training.

Tick-tock-tick-tock . . .

Kim How did your run go? Did you stick with your 4-6 or do the 11?
Thanks for asking, Maura. I was a good girl and did just about 5.5. I need to start upping my mileage soon, though. I'm getting really nervous! I don't know when I'll get in my next long run, though. I should go 11 miles this weekend, but instead I'm doing the RFTT 3K. So now I just have to figure out where/when to do another 9 miles that morning.

Maura, Lisa, and Suzanne and anyone else doing RFTT: Are you all planning on attending the Boardwalk Bakery meet on Saturday? If so, let's try and get a Goofs group photo!

I am absolutely frozen with panic about this weekends marathon.

Yesterday we ran 6 miles and I was out of breath the entire time - we weren't even running that fast! Then to terrify me even more, by 7 pm my legs were aching as if I had run 20 miles that morning. Yikes! Whats going on?

Thank goodness I have so many things to do before I leave that I don't have much time to think about the race. I am still hoping to break the 4:30 mark. I should be able to if the stars align and God is good. Of course NASA has to go blow up the moon on the eve of the race - just to give me one more thing to worry about.

Cecilia

Best of luck, Cecilia! I'm sure it's just "Taper Madness" messing with you. I'm sure you will do very well once you cross that start mat. Hang in there!

Cecilia Good luck and just take a deep breath. We all think you'' do fine.

Kim I plan to go to the meet, so a Goofs photo op should be a go!

As for me....."Maura, you just ran your longest training run ever, what are you going to do now.......I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD! I decided to do my LR today, since I'll miss it this weekend with RFTT. Did 12 miles... a tough 12 miles, since I XT'ed yesterday (normally take day off before LR) and it was majorly windy. I am wiped, but then, maybe I'll sleep tonight (I hope so...staying with DS and family and they all snore!

Maura

Hey Goofs,
The last lingering cough is finally gone. And, as an added bonus - my last hard run before the RFTT was a 5k on the treadmill today - and I set an unofficial PR of 19:40.

Kim, Maura - I'd like to make the meet, but we have ADRs at Trails End not too long after that, so if I want to live to see the start of the race, I kinda need to be there instead. Tell everyone I said hi and good luck, okay?

Sorry I forgot you were doing RFTT, Rich. And sorry we'll miss you at the meet, but keeping an ADR is pretty darn important. Maybe I'll see you at the finish line. With your speedy 5K, I'd guess that you'll be wrapping up your 10K right around the time I'm finishing my 3K!

Hey all, I plan on being at the meet so a Goofs picture sounds great.

in the saddle folks...I'll read up the rest of the posts later, but I missed my Goofy buddys!

Mike
