We're headed to the World on Dec 11th and arrive at 6pm . I just found out today that Typhoon Lagoon will be closing for refurbishment on the 12th. This was THE water park that we wanted to do :worried: I tried to get an earlier flight but rates went way up. My question to you all is which other water park would be a good choice, BB or W&W ? If any of you have done both and can recomend one I'd really appreciate it. Thanks Elisa :wave2:

BB is a lot of fun. The themeing will be especially good for at that time of year. If you have children that will especially enjoy this water park. There is a great "kiddie" area and a great family ride.

Have fun! :wave2:

I've done all three (though I haven't been to W&W in 8-10 years) and BB is really fun. Typhoon Lagoon is normally closed during the time frame you're going. Don't know what age your children are, but both have fun kid's areas. I personally think the family raft ride is better at BB than at TL. The winter theme is particularily fun. Have a great time.

Definitely Blizzard Beach. We like Blizzard Beach better than Typhoon Lagoon. The theming is great! My sister was watching a travel show last year and Blizzard Beach was rated the 2nd Best Water Park in the Country, the first was in Wisconsin.

Being that this is primarily a board for disney fans, you're probably gonna hear mostly "yeahs" for BB. But I'll add, if you have older kids who thrive on thrill rides, W&W might be more the park for you. BB's major thrill ride is Summet Plummet (my 2 dd's still won't attempt this one), but most of the others are rather tame when compared to W&W's numerous thrill rides. You didn't mention if you had kids or not.

Yes I do have 2 kids. Dd is 8 and Ds is almost 7. I want lots of variety
and I was hoping for a wave pool . Dd is fearless but we wouldn't let her attempt any of the riskier thrill rides. Dh is dissapointed about missing the Swim with the Sharks at TL. I just want the overal better park for rides, theming is nice but not necessary. Keep in mind we're coming from Canada and trying to get away from the snow :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: So i'm just trying to decide between BB and Wet&wild. Thanks again Elisa :wave2:

Hi, Elisa - we're from Canada too, and we love Blizzard Beach! There's a terrific wave pool, terrifying - but fun - water slides, the absolutely best family raft ride, a lazy river around the whole outside of the park, where you can float in inner tubes, an indescribable twisting tube ride that was a blast, slide tube rides and so on - plus loads of loungers where you can work on a tan when you get tired! I am sure you will love BB!

I just wanted to add that the "winter/snow" theming is fun, and will not remind you of our Canadian winters at all!

The wave pool at TL is nice but it can get crowded. I actually got hurt in the wave pool this Aug. Some "hot dog" decided to dive the opposite direction (into the wave) instead of going the direction the crowd was going in and slammed into me. Then, about 20 min later I got slammed in the head with some guys elbow. Had the worst headache. That wave pool can get rough. The wave pool at BB has gentle waves---sort of like ripples ? Can anyone help me out here in describing it ? You do get to bob up and down a bit.
Also, I feel BB has a couple more rides in comparison to TL ? But I will admit, that Crush 'N Gusher was fun. As for the swim with the sharks. We were suprised to see they don't give snorkels for that anymore ??? You have a choice now 1) rent oxygen tank for $20/person 2) swim without a snorkel (which we did). Had to keep bobbing our heads up for air though.
I think since you mentioned you want an overall better park for rides, you won't be disappointed with BB. The family raft ride is much better at BB. My kids say the one at TL is "wimpy"....lol

Thank you for all the replies and great advice. I think I WILL go for BB and my DH will be excited. I've been doing all the planning and I was aiming slightly more towards W&W yesterday and my DH wanted BB. I think I'll pretend to give in and let him have his way even though I've changed my mind. :rotfl: NotSo Mini , where in Canada are you from ? Elisa :flower1:

NotSoMini , I'm glad there's somebody so close by that loves this sight too :goodvibes We love PEI and we're sorry to hear about Rainbow Valley  This was our last summer to visit it. Do you go to the World often ? Where's your favorite place to stay ? This will be our kids 1st trip there , the last day being my DS 7th b-day.We Honeymooned there in '94, but this time I'm doing it right and I'm planning everything , with room for spontaneity of course :goodvibes Drop me a line back. Your Neighbor in N.B.

Howdy neighbour!!

We are in Shediac...Where are you???

We love both BB and TL...You will have a blast no matter which one is open...Heck the chair lift at BB is really worth it if your kids love the rides.

Hi It's Elisa here , and I'm still waiting to hear back from you NotSoMini !
PhotobearSam... I wrote to you about your surprise in MK not long ago but never heard back. I'm from Rothesay, just outside of Saint John. Glad to be meeting all of you Disney nuts like me. :goodvibes Knowing you all are so close makes it more of a reality for me and not just some surreal world I'm obsessed with night and day. Maybe if I was there more, I wouldn't be so bad ;) Please let me know if your still out there, and thanks again for all the advice. Elisa We're leaving for Disney on Dec 10th :cool1:

Sorry for the delay in hitting the DIS again, Elisa - I love WDW and would be more than happy to yak about it all day! My family is considerably older than yours, but we've been travelling to WDW for many, many years now - we honeymooned there, too! And we've gone every two years since our kids were tiny - of course, if it wasn't quite so far (or if we had more money!) we'd be there every year!

We drive, which may sound nuts, but is much more affordable and the kids have always been good in the car. Our favourite resort is CBR, but we've also stayed at POR and the All-Stars. Also, except for our first time with the kids, and our upcoming trip in the spring of 2006, we've always gone in December - more or less the same time you will be there, and we've stayed on site for Christmas, too! Ordinarily, we also rent a condo on a beach somewhere for week. I must caution you that there is a more than good chance you won't have a really good day for waterparks at this time of year - while we have been fortunate to hit warm days in Orlando in December, we have more frequently encountered cooler weather - great for the parks, and ok for the resort pools (in and out), but really too cool to enjoy walking around in a wet bathing suit at a waterpark for the day.

Please pm me or just use this forum if you have any particular questions!

Just saw this on the allearsnet site :
Blizzard Beach will be closed October 23 through December 2005 for its annual rehab. Typhoon Lagoon will close for its annual refresh once Blizzard Beach reopens.
So, Elisa.....looks like your dh won't have to miss the shark snorkel after all ! Usually it's TL that closes during this time period. Guess they switched off. Have fun at TL !

Thanks for the reply. I already found out that TL will close for reburbishment on Dec 12th. Unfortunately we arrive at 6:00pm the 11th .I tried to get an earlier flight so we could spend the 11th there, but my tickets would go up in price by $600.00. I guess it's "BB Here we come !" I'm not upset. I'm sure it will be great. Let's just hope that the weather is warm enough. I see you're a Vistana owner. I was there in Sept '90 and it was beautiful . I was a Nanny at the time and swore when I got married , I'd go back someday.
Elisa :goodvibes

Elisa,
This is what I thought too. But I just recently read that update on allearsnet where it states that BB will be closed through Dec. So that would leave TL OPEN during Dec. :cheer2: ???
They always leave one water park open. What was your source for TL being closed on Dec 12 ? My source says TL is open all Dec ? Anyone else hear anything ?
check out this : http://www.allearsnet.com/tp/rehabs.htm#dec
All the sites I've checked only have hours posted thru November.
As for Vistana....glad u enjoyed your stay there ! Hope you get that chance to visit again. We do love it there as well.

We are going December 3-10th, so are you under the impression that Typhoon Lagoon will be open then? I sure hope so. Like a fool, I told my son (7) about the swimming with sharks/fish and that is all he has been talking about.

Where do I find out the operation schedule for Typhoon Lagoon?

Thanks.
