First, I liked it, we all did but I want to talk about the creature design. Was anyone else watching and thinking that the alien in Super 8 looked like a mini version of the alien from Cloverfield? My kids think it was a baby.

I liked the movie, the kids were amazing and the story was great, but the creature design was so-so, I don't like it when you never get a good look, which you don't because it moves so fast and I'm not a fan of creatures I'm supposed to be sympathetic for who have no endearing qualities. The creature didn't seem to ft the story they were trying to tell IMHO.

I find it really weird that two days before Super8 cane out, it was reported online that Cloverfield 2 is definitely happening.

Really, we are all huge Cloverfield fans here, I must go look to see what's going on with it.

DH said the same design team did both Super 8 and Cloverfield, it's not that I didn't like the design, it was amazing in Cloverfield where optimum creepiness fit the story... it's just that it didn't really fit here. Maybe it's because anything spiderlike-batlike freaks me out to the nth degree.

The current accepted theory is that Super is a sort of precursor to Cloverfield. The creature definitely has a similar look to the the Cloverfield one, so my understanding is that they are likely from the same planet.

JJ Abrams has said that the Cloverfield alien was, in fact, an infant. And that its rampage was supposed to that of a terrified, out-of-control child who was confused and frightened.

So, the Super 8 alien (whose name is COOPER, according to JJ Abrams), is not an infant version of Cloverfield, but more than likely an alien from the same planet.

Besides, the Cloverfield creature was clearly NOT a higher intelligence life-form, while Cooper very much was.

The turning point in Super 8 for Cooper and his relatability or his turn from monster to an intelligent being came when his eyes changed while it was holding the kid. A bit cliched, but I got it.

Hmmm, I like it! Thanks Jennasis:thumbsup2

I'm always a fan of stories weaving into each other the way Stan Lee always does. Disney too when they show a glimpse on another character in their films. I can't quite say why I like the style so much, I just do.

Okay, not to get off on a Cloverfield tangent, but ds and i were talking. If this Cloverfield sequel comes to pass, could it be possible to see a crossover, or a shout out to Super 8 in some way? With the era that S8 took place in, could that be an easy thing to do? Maybe involve the kids, as the age they'd be now??

I sure hope so!

If you watch Cloverfield, in the final scene where the tape cuts from the Central Park destruction back to the two love-birds enjoying a day on Coney Island, if you watch behind the character while they are on the ferris wheel, you can actually see a VERY large object fall from the sky and land in the ocean in the distance. Not entirely sure how it fits into the story line, but it is suppose to have some significance.
