Sunwing....Clear Customs At YYZ ?

Not that I am going to be of much help, but... the first time we flew them in 2007, we cleared customs in MCO but it might be because it was a flight which got rescheduled to much later in the day. And the second time we flew with them this past February for a morning flight, we cleared customs in Toronto.

Waaaaay better to clear customs in Toronto, so I hope that's what happens for you!

Yes,indeed.......the last few times we went through T3 it was always customs cleared locally, but they were all early morning flights (as is the case with Sunwing) and I wonder if it depends on how busy they are with US destined flights as to whether they do it locally or not.
Thanks

Starseed, how come its better to clear customs in Toronto? or do you mean its better as opposed to MCO?

My travel agent said that we do clear customs here in Toronto. She advised that we get there as early as possible - close to the 3 hour before we take off mark as there are not that many people working at customs and that it therefore takes lots of time.

MissMeliss ~ In my experience, it is better to clear customs in YYZ than in MCO. If you are clearing customs in MCO, you are first required to pick up your checked luggage to take through an additional security check before sending the checked luggage back on to a turnstile, go through customs and then pick up the checked luggage again.

When we had to do this, it took us an additional hour or so after we touched down to collect our checked luggage from the final turnstile.

We are flying Air Transat for our October trip and I think we may have to clear customs in MCO for this flight. We are definitely NOT going to have any checked luggage with us for that trip!

In our case, the flight leaves at 6-45am and I don't think the Customs opens till about 5-30am or thereabouts. So,we don't have much choice. In saying that,I have actually been there several times when the Customs opens and they have plenty of the customs officers on duty (this is T3 I'm talking about .....not sure about T1)and even if you are near the back of the line,it is only about 30 minutes or so to go through.

I remember Canada 3000 was still in business my family and I flew them at least two times when going to MCO and each time we had to clear Customs there and not at YYZ. I remember each time they had only two lines open and I think there must have been another flight that arrived the same time we did, so that did not make things any easier. Besides that the 1st time we did that and got our checked bags we thought great because it will save so much time, so we were surprised and disappointed we had to check them again since we were not expecting to. Finally just before we made it into the terminal we then had to go threw another security check point screening. I understand the need for it and etc, however we did that back at YYZ and already got threw Customs.
