**Has anyone booked & stayed at one of the vacation rentals in the Sunset Lakes community? This is where my rental home is for next October, so just curious(ok & a little nervous) nice community?
**Does "gated" mean it is secured as in you need a combination or something to get in?

** How far is it really from Disney (they claim 5 miles, but does this turn out to be 30 minutes?) Also looking for, what are the bests groceries stores to shop at?

**Also, we booked thru Alexander Vacation Homes, anyone have prior experiences with this company? They had no complaints registered with the BBB, and I liked their web-page so I used them
**Just wondering if the transaction process went smooth?

TIA for any insight!

We stayed at Sunset Lakes back in 2000 and loved it, although it was very new then and I haven't been back since.

Yes, in theory, "gated community" means that you need a combination to get in, although in my experience, it's hit and miss as to whether the gate is actually closed.

It really is very close to WDW, especially if you take the Sherberth Road shortcut. Turn right as you exit Sunset Lakes onto the Funie Steed Road. Turn left at the fourways stop sign onto Formosa Gardens Blvd. Turn right onto the 192 and then take a left at the next lights onto the Sherberth Road. This will take you directly to WDW property - Animal Kingdom Lodge is left at the lights at the end of Sherberth Road, everything else is right and signposted. It will take you 10 minutes tops to reach AK, a bit longer for the other parks (you enter WDW property at its bottom left-hand corner near AK).

The closest supermarket is at the Formosa Gardens shopping center - a Winn Dixie Marketplace. Take the same route and it is on your left-hand side between the fourways stop sign and the 192. We prefer the Publix a little futher west on the 192. Turn left as you exit Sunset Lakes, then right through Lindfields and out onto the 192. Turn left onto the 192 and Publix is a little further along on the right. If you are visiting Publix en-route to or from WDW, you can take Black Lake Road (which is right next to Publix) to link to Sherberth Road. It runs parallel with the 192, but is traffic-free.

We've never booked with Alexander Vacation Homes, but they are a reputable company.

Enjoy your trip!

Thank you for all of the great tips Debbie! ;)

I'm making myself crazy doing the majority of the planning for our 1st"family" (extended included!! vacation!); which is why I'm starting 1 year early!!

Again appreciate your response/help!

Shelly,

We own a home in Sunset Lakes. I know you will be very happy staying in our community. It is a very quiet and close to 192. You can really get to the Walt Disney World Property in 5 mins. Turn right out of the community and you will come to a stop sign, Turn left, Turn right at the stoplight onto 192, Turn Left at Sherbeth rd and you will come out at Animal Kingdom.

What rd are you satying on in the community? Did you get a home backing one of the lakes?

I do not have any information on Alexander Homes. I am sure you will be fine with them.

Have fun planning your vacation!!

Thanks for the info Jennifer! We are staying in the Sunlake Villa home (it's 5 br & 3 ba) and yes the lake is right behind it.. I don't know the name of the street because the company hasn't given it to us yet! I'm sure they do this to protect the homeowner until you get there to pick up the key, which I understand, it just stinks for planning purposes! All they told us is Winn Dixie is closest grocery store & that we are 4-5 miles from Disney..

Thanks again!
Shelly :wave2:

Actually Publix is the closet,if you come out thru the Linfields entrance on 192 it is just up the road a bit by Orange Lake CC

Though we've never stayed at Sunset Lakes, I can say it is in a great location - just minutes from Disney and close to many amenities. Can vouch for Alexander Homes, however. Very reputable company, extremely clean properties and responsive to your needs. They were at our rental several times during our stay, although we never actually saw them. We were aware that they had pruned bushes and trees, cleaned the pool and even replaced the broiler pan in the oven because it was stained! I'm sure you'll have a great stay.:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
