I wear contacts and I also burn at the sight of bright sunlight, last summer I used coppertone sport which sprayed on after I applied it like four times once every two hours it started to get into my contacts. Oh my goodness pain:eek:. It hurts so bad and I don't spray it on my face I put some in my palm and then place it on my face with my hands avoiding my eyes. It just seems to irratate my contacts and eyes after a while. Any good suggestions for contact wearers and fair skin people. Thank you for your help.:goodvibes

I use sunscreen that is PABA free because I break out if I don't. Avon makes one and also another company that I can't remember the name of. It was in a purple container. I never had a problem with those burning my eyes. They are a bit thicker, but they might be better for you.

I find that a thick lotion/cream is much less likely to run into my eyes from sweating or swimming than a thinner lotion or the spray on kinds (which are the worst). Try getting anything really thick and then rubbing it in extra well on your face. I also put it on before I leave the house--not once I am already in the sun. Guidelines are generally to apply 30 minutes before exposure anyway. I find this seems to allow the lotion even more time to really soak in before I am out in the sun and it could run down to my eyes. When I reapply during the day I try to do so at the BEGINNING of a break in the shade/lucnh indoors/etc. for the same reason. I have had much fewer issues with my contacts since I started doing things this way.

I always have my son put two fingers over his eyes to avoid spraying on his lashes and thus into his eyes.

I sweat profusely and burn even in January. Coppertone Sport (either spray or lotion) and Bullfrog does not drip into my eyes (I also wear contacts).

The Coppertone Sport got into my kids eyes, too, after sweating. I now use one of those sticks on their faces that look like a glue stick. It's a little greasy, but it doesn't drip.

Try Blue Lizard Sensitive. It's sweatproof, waterproof, fragrance free and chemical free. It's nice and thick but rubs in easily without being greasey. I have very sensitive skin and Blue Lizard works well for me (no stinging in my eyes). It's also rated a 2 out of 10 on the cosmetics database of dangerous products - one of the lowest for sun protection products (many score a 7 or above):

That is exactly what we use...and we even call it the "glue stick"! They work well and no problems with dripping, burning, etc.

I second this, it's the chemicals in normal sunscreens that cause my eyes to freak out. We have blue lizard in just about every pool and Disney bag we own, my kids and DH won't use anything else, either.

A sunscreen stick as mentioned already is the only thing we've found not to run and sting. There's another one in the shape of a stick that is actually a liquid that you dab on that works too, although it smells very "strong."

We use Banana Boat Baby "Tear Free" SpPF 50 "Won't Sting Eyes"
  • No Tearing
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Waterproof

I am not sure about contacts, I only know my girls Never complain anymore about their eyes burning! :thumbsup2

My son always used to complain about Water Babies. I switched to Banana Boat Kids Tear Free (also waterproof) -bright yellow and pink tube a couple years ago. He said it's not perfect but a lot better than the other stuff.

Edited to add: I guess that's another vote for this one - we posted at the same time! I can't buy the Baby kind though (we buy the Kids kind) - he would be embarassed at daycare...
