We got back from WDW a couple of weeks ago and are headed back in less than a month!!   :cool1: :cool1:

When we were there in October it was quite hot. I put sunscreen on my son diligently. The sunscreen (and the heat) makes him sweat like crazy! When I tried to put the sunscreen on his face it either sweated into his eyes or he would rub his face and then his eyes and get the sunscreen in that way. It made him miserable and his eyes terribly red. I then felt like a terrible mom because I was trying to do something good for him that ended up causing him pain.

What do you do? Should I just not put sunscreen on his face and hands (since he rubs his eyes when tired)? Any better ideas? Is there a sunscreen out there that doesn't sting eyes???

Please help!!!

Well, have you tried the sunscreen stick (I think it's water babies). That's made for faces, it's basically a giant chapstick with spf. I also found the spray/mist in a can to be very helpful. My kids start running away when they see me with sunblock so I like that it's fast and easy. For the face, I would just spray onto my hands first and then wipe on their faces as fast as humanly possible. Look for a brand that says sweat proof.

PS- I found it helpful to put it on them before we left so they weren't all sweaty yet.

I went thorough an extensive sunblock search over the summer. My 1 year old's skin is very sensitive and I was furious after lathering him up several times throughout the day with an off the shelf brand and still seeing some sunburn at when we got home. I also had the problem of the sunblock burning his eyes. I learned a lot about what to look for in a sunblock. There is a site out there cosmeticdatabase.com where you can look up sunblock and find out how safe they are. Many off the shelf brands are not very highly ranked on this site. We went with Blue Lizard. We had to find it and order it online, but it works very well and didn't burn his eyes. The baby formula and the sensitive formula are the same, so either one would be fine for your baby. If you don't want to order and need something off the shelf, I would probably go with Aveeno.

You don't say how old your son is I'm assuming he's not yet 1. I would try to get either a spray powder like sunscreen or something like Banana Boat Sunscreen Powder-Dri KIDS SPF 30. It dries like a powder so it's not oily and runny. With the spray you can spray your fingers and rub on his face and then just spray his arms and neck etc.

Johnson's needs to make tear free sunscreen now, not just shampoo. :)

When we went in July when DS was 9 months old I put his sunscreen on before we left our room in the morning. I brought it with us but never reapplied it because I always kept the stroller covered with our Ray Shade so that the sun stayed off of him.

There are tear-free sunscreens out there. But some sunscreens are different up here in Canada. We were in Mexico for 2 wks in July this year with our DD who was 1 & not a single sunburn or pink skin. We used a drugstore brand for babies that was tear proof.
We also used the Bugaboo UV Shade so she was always protected. These UV shades for strollers are amazing, keep bugs out, keep them cool, and she could nap safely in there w/o me worrying about her.

have you looked at the California Baby line of sunscreens? They have all different types.

We've used huggies sun block which was great for arms and legs, but like the OP said, my DS too would rub his eyes so we had to be careful not to get it on his hands. I've also used banana boat spray which was good for his legs but it was too drippy on his arms and again, we had the eye rubbing issue. I had a stick for the trip in September, and we used that on his face and it seemed to work out best, and keeping whatever else we used off his hands.
