What days are the Sunrise Safari (for the AKL concierge guests)? What time do you assemble and what time do you return to the hotel? Must you use a park ticket to go? I'd like to do this on a non-park day, if possible. Thanks for any input you have!

Here's some info from Allearsnet:

"Sunrise Safari Breakfast Adventure is available to concierge guests only. The tour, along the safari ride path, lasts about 45 minutes and includes multiple stops so that you can stand up and take many pictures. Each of the animals along the way is described in great detail, since there is plenty of time. The Adventure is available on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

After the Safari, you go to Tusker House for a breakfast buffet which includes both standard American and African items. Each person also gets a FastPass to Kilimanjaro Safari to experience it "the regular way".

Bill Leska writes: We just returned from a six night stay at AKL, where we did the Sunrise Safari twice. It was that great! Here are a couple of updates you may want to consider:

The price is now just a shade less than $50 per person, including tax. (Our total for three people was $149.xx.) The fact sheet says it's $39.95. It leaves the AKL at 7:30, not 6:30 as shown. (I imagine that this would probably vary with season, the park's opening time, etc., but for our trip, it left at 7:30.)

The fact sheet said that there was a limit of 28 persons. This wasn't the case for either of our safaris. One of them had 55 people and the other had about 50. However, there does appear to be a limit to the number of people: We went on the safari on a Saturday and like it so much, we booked it again for the following Tuesday. As the Concierge was setting things up, he mentioned that it looked good, because there wasn't anyone on the waiting list. (Having a waiting list indicates to me that there is a limit of some kind.)

As I mentioned, we had a great time on the safari and would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who enjoys the Animal Kingdom's Kilimanjaro Safari. The Sunrise Safaris were the highlight of our trip. (7/04)

The group leaves AKL at 6:30am and you are transported to the Animal Kingdom's Kilimanjaro Safari area.

It can be booked up to 90 days out, by contacting AKL concierge directly (once you have your room reservation)."

When we did it last December, the dates were Tuesdays and Saturdays I believe. That may have changed since then though. It was a wonderful experience! Worth every penny and then some! I honestly can’t recall when we were finished with breakfast (the breakfast is after the safari, and it’s delicious), but I think it must’ve been around 10 am. Yes, you need a park ticket to get in. After doing the safari, you will also be given Fast Passes to see the attraction the “regular” way. It was really a wonderful experience--I highly recommend it.

It has changed starting April 1st, it will be held on Sundays and Thursdays, I found this out the hard way after booking concierge and then finding this out...

njdc5 IS CORRECT THAT SUNRISE SAFARI IS ON THURSDAY AND SUNDAY. THE SUNSET SAFARI IS ON MONDAY, WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY. TRY TO DO BOTH.

Will a 5 year old find this boring do you think? Or is it mainly for adults.

Can someone tell me what breakfast foods are available after the sunrise safari is over?

As long as your 5 year old likes animals (and what 5 year old doesn't???) it is great! It is the safari ride only twice as long without the story line. You get to stop and actually see the animals while the naturalist talks and answers questions about them. The animals are just released to the savannah so they are fresh and moving around. We took our 3 and 9 yo and they both enjoyed it. My only tip is to feed the your child a small snack or breakfast before you go. For little tummies the wait can be long until the breakfast.

AFTER THE SAFARI AT THE ANIMAL KINGDOM, THE GROUP PROCEEDS TO THE TUSKER HOUSE TO A PRIVATE DINING AREA WHERE THE MOST FABULOUS BREAKFAST IS SERVED. REALLY ENJOYABLE.

They had many different items. I would say equal to, or more than the number of items at Crystal Palace or Chef Mickeys. There were a couple things with african influence, basic american breakfast fare and some more gourmet/orginal items. My DH is a vegetarian, I am not and our DD's are typical 3 & 9 year olds enjoyed it very much. I wasn't expecting such a large amount of food, more of a basice breakfast. I cant remember the dishes well enough to list them but if you have any questions or conerns I would be happy to help.

Thank you. DS is a picky eater and I had a few concerns, but it sounds like he'll find something he likes.

The assortment of food, as previously mentioned, does have a slightly African influence. Before everyone serves themselves the chef will come out and go over all of the dishes, tell you the name and what is in each one if it is an unusual item.

Mmmmmm I can taste it now!

It reads this is a vailable to all concierge guests at a WDW hotel, is this correct, someone posted only AKL concierge guests...does anyone know? And how do you book? Is it like a PS through your hotels concierge, or do you contact AKL directly? thanks for the info! :thewave:

I believe it's only AKL concierge guests. Someone asked that question on a different thread and the response was for AKL concierge only. The post above says concierge guests, but it was cut from the section on AKL lodge from that website.

While the sunrise safari is only for AKL concierge guests, I do know they have another safari that is open to any concierge guest at any Disney hotel. I do not have the details, but I am pretty sure it doesn't involve a meal, or getting up before the sun rises!

"Another tour which is offered exclusively to our Walt Disney World Concierge Guests is the Wildlife Discovery Excursion. This is a wonderful opportunity to view all of the animals at the Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and learn about them from one of our Animal Programs Cast Members."

This is from an email from one of the cast members from the BWI planning office. This tour is available, I believe, daily at 9:00 and 10:30 for guests staying at any resort in a concierge room. I don't have the info on the cost, that email is at work, but I know it does not involve a meal.

you have to scroll down the page a bit to get to it
