Sunrise Safari

We just did the Sunrise Safari and I would highly reccommend it. The breakfast they served after the tour was the best we had of the entire trip, including the one at Boma!
We did a split stay specifically to have the opportunity to do the tour, and it was so worth it. Changing hotels was very easy, they took care of the luggage for us and we just made our way to the new hotel when we were ready. Have a wonderful time.

Only Thursday & Sunday mornings.
And you only have to be staying on the AKL club level on that particular day. Not sure of your dates for January and August, but maybe you could start your vacation or end it at the AKL specifically for the safari. It really depends on your plans though.

I'm going to do some juggling and try to do it in August. We're staying at a suite at the POLY, so maybe I can add a night or two for an AKL suite.

1) The Sunrise Safari IS available to other Club Level guests.
2) But, very seldom.
3) If the safari is pretty empty, they will open it to other CL guests.
4) Pretty empty means pretty empty, not just a few open seats.
5) But, it is on a last minute basis - usually late the night before.
6) Don't look for it to happen during busy resort times.

Thanks for the info! I'm staying at the POLY CL in August. I hope it's offered!!!

I spoke to AKL IPO about getting in if we were NOT staying AKL concierge. They told me the ONLY time they will consider allowing other guests on the Sunrise Safari is if the number of guests booked for a particular day is so low that they will have to cancel it if they don't find more people. Since it only runs 2 days each week I would think that almost NEVER happens.

This is copied off of an e-mail from the YC planning office. We are leaving in 21 Days.

Cost is $45 dollars for Club Level guest and requires prepayment.

BCV3-This is the tour I took,it does meet in AK but I always seem to go in the wrong direction everywhere I go and I had no problem finding the meeting place. I really enjoyed having a smaller group because we were all able to move from one side of the vehicle to the other side to take all the pictures that we wanted(except those behind the scenes)The Kilimajaro Safari vehicles kept coming by while we were stopped to take pictures and they were taking pictures of us,it was pretty funny. They also give you a fast pass for the Kilmanjaro Safari, which they no longer do for the Sunrise Safari. I also did do the Sunrise safari this trip and had done the Sunset Safari in 2005. I really enjoyed them all but I think the Wildlife Discovery Excursion was the best deal of all the tours. I know people really love the breakfast after the sunrise safari but I don't have a very big appetite so I can't really take advantage of a big buffet. The Sunrise Safari is also more crowded and if I really want to take pictures I have to try and sit on the outside of the vehicle or I'll have nothing but a bunch of peoples heads.(I'm very short).
Also Native NYer I think split stays are great. I stayed 3 nights each at WL CL,Poly CL and AKL CL. I really love The Poly but I think that AKL CL is a great deal and I found the food offerings and service the best of the 3. This is just my opinion but I just wanted to share that with you.
Enjoy whatever you decide!!!!!!
:)

Kata, thanks. I wasn't worried about finding the meeting spot....more time management I guess. The park is so big and attractions so far apart. If it was first thing in the am, it would be easy to start your day there. And actually with the earlier excusion, that could work well. I had thought the excusion was only offered in the pm. But before I was picturing trying to time the several attractions that are high on my family's list with arriving at the back of the park early afternoon...KWIM. Anyway thanks for your answer and more details.

NatvieNYer, I also agree with Kata and others. A split stay is easy and fun.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm going to switch to a split stay. AKL seems soo beautiful!! I'm sure we'll love it! :cloud9:
