In the new All Ears newsletter, there is a reader tip that the sunset savannah is now open to everyone, and I am talking to my DU agent and she said that the same is correct for the Sunrise Savannah, that if you are staying at AKL you can book the sunrise savannah.
I saw that in AllEars and I was going to call about it tomorrow. Sunrise would be FABULOUS for our trip in February! The trip is going to be so short we won't have time to do a sunset safari, but sunrise would be perfect!

Okay, I just got finished talking with my DU agent again, and it appears that SOMETIMES if they are not sold out, they will offer the safari to other guests. So, it looks like they do it in a way to ensure that concierge gets priority and the spots aren't take up by the non concierge guests.
Ah ha. Well, I will give Disney a call and see what they can tell me. If I have to try to book it during our actual stay then we can do that, too. Or we could upgrade to concierge one night...
EDIT:
I just got off the phone with Disney and the DU agent is exactly right. SOMETIMES if the safari isn't already full they will allow other AKL guests to go, but you can not book it ahead of time. They suggested that I ask about availability when we check in.
