DH and I are really excited about the Sunrise Safari at the AKL. We will be traveling w/ our son who will be just a week shy of 3. Even though he loves animals, I am wondering if he will be bored on this excursion. We booked a concierge room just to take advantage of this but now rethinking it. Also, I'd hate for him to annoy other guests w/ his excitement and non-stop talking. We'd *really* like to do the Sunset Safari but I am sure there's an age restriction.

Any advice?
TIA!!

Hi!

I say do the sunrise safari. We did it in December with our 18 month old DD. She loved it. I did grab a bowl of fruit loops at the concierge lounge just so I would have something for her to eat just in case. It rained all day but they gave us ponchos. The animals were all out. It was great to see them playing in the rain. They love it when it rains. We saw all 6 cheetahs, they were chasing each other. Even the lions were up and moving around. The breakfast afterwards is great too.

If you decide not to do the morning ride there is the sunset that I have heard is really good to but you would need a babysitter for your son.

I just wouldn't miss the opportunity to do the ride if given the chance to do it again.

Thanks, Angela! I'm glad to hear your DD enjoyed it. Do you remember how long the ride lasted?

We did the Sunrise Safari with our dd the day after she turned 3. She loved it! She was very excited to see the animals. The safari part lasted about an hour. Have a great time!

I agree, it lasted about an hour. You really learn alot about the animals and their care. While we were there we learned that the camper out behind the elephant house was there to house vets on call 24 hours due to an expecting elephant. I love to hear about how well they take care of all the animals. You actually get to stop and look at the animals. They even let you stand up at the stops and take pictures. We had a set of baby ducks go by the truck so we had to wait a while for them all to pass. There were more kids on the trucks that were probably 3 and up. I think they were too entranced by all the animals being so active to be disruptive.

So even if you wake up the morning of the safari and it is raining, don't be discouraged because that is the animals favorite kind of weather!!
