If the weather cooperates, can you see the sunrise at VB? My DS wants to get up and take photos, but we want to make sure it would be worth it!

ABSOLUTELY!!

Living on the west coast of Florida - I always enjoy getting up early to get pictures of the sunrise.

We have always stayed in an Ocean View Inn Room - so I normally only have to wander over to our balcony to get some really good shots but, if you're staying in a "room without a view," you can always go over to the Green Cabin Room and take some shots from there.

While the door inside the Inn to the Green Cabin Room will (most likely) be locked at that time of day, you can take the staircase on the back porch of the resort up to the overlook!

I've got some great shots if you'd like me to email them to you!

Have a good time!

Beth - thanks for the info! Would love to see your shots. We just bought a digital camera and DS has been having lots of fun with it (hopefully he'll show me how to use it, too!) - took great shots of the sunset at the beach here and now has the idea of sunrise pics. Now we have to hope for good weather........

DisneyHumbug -- Watching and photographing the sunrise is about my favorite thing to do at Vero! Tell your son that even if it's cloudy, they sun may burst through (if he's lucky). You sometimes see the sun as a little fire through the cloudiness and then it comes into full view (or not). Patience is the key.

The view from the Inn is spectacular. I have also seen people down on the boardwalk entrance to the beach at the same time. I imagine the view here is spectacular as well.

You can also catch the sunset from the other side of the Inn. I haven't seen this as often but did see it from the laundry room (of all places) on one trip.

I spent more than one morning on the Boardwalk at the edge of the beach watching the sunrise. It was so peaceful and so beautiful. One morning I even took my nephews - 5 years and 16 months (in the stroller). Even they were content to just sit/stand and watch. It made memories I will savor for years to come. I'm still amazed that so few people were around at that time.

Pam let you in on a secret at Vero - the view of the lagoon from the balcony off the laundry room in the Inn is GREAT!!

I was at Vero Beach 5 days last Christmas and got up to see the sun every morning but one. I was lucky enough to have a 3rd floor ocean view 1BR, but that time of year the sun was too far to the south to be able to see the sunrise from the balcony. So, I went down to the Boardwalk. My family joined me a couple of times. We were never disappointed. It was beautiful every day, including some days that were cloudy. Have some beautiful pictures, too.

There were always other people down at the Boardwalk and on the beach. One day we hooked up w/ another DVC'er and her daughter and had breakfast together at Shutters.

One of the nice things about going right near the winter solstice is that the sunrise comes at a very reasonable hour! :)

I assume you mean while your staying at VB :-)

Sorry, KNWVIKING - I thought I was answering the question clearly.... :)

I am proud to say my almost 18 yo DS got up to see the sunrise with me at VB!! We had an inn room with a direct ocean view, so we didn't need to leave the room. Of course, he went back to bed about 7:00!!!
We LOVED VB. We were there 2 nights and that was perfect for us. The only concern I had, was no lifeguard. I sat on the beach and watched my kids in the water, but they swim better than I do.
We're definitely going back.

It's true that there is no lifeguard at the ocean beach directly in front of the VB resort. However, those who are concerned should know that there is a lifeguard at the public beach/small park just north of the resort. You can easily walk to it, as it is not very far. I don't remember the hours for the lifeguard, but they are posted.

I'm not suggesting that the lifeguards at the public beach watch the resort's beach, just that those who are truly worried about the lack of a lifeguard at VB could swim at the public beach instead. It never appeared to be crowded when we were there (President's weekend).

Of course, there are multiple lifeguards at the VB pool.
