SunPass sticker found in rental

We just picked up a car from Avis this morning. While on the Florida Turnpike, I noticed a sunpass sticker on the windshield. We have our own pass, but I’m sure both are getting charged for our tolls.

Years ago, I left one on a rental and remembered as we were sailing away for a two week cruise. Fortunately, I did not have a credit card linked to the account. I reported it as lost when we returned. So, we didn’t lose much.

I’m not sure what to do about this sticker. Hopefully, the owner has reported it as lost. Has anyone had this happen? What did you do? We will be going through tolls with the car and I don’t like the thought of using up someone else’s funds.

When we signed up for Sun Pass last month we told them when to shut it off so assuming the people who left theirs in your car did the same thing they are probably not getting charged for anything.

I would just drop both passes off together when you return your rental car.

I hope you are right! It’s a sticker, so not easy to take off. We tried, but we were driving. I will let Avis know when we return the car.

and THAT'S why buying the less cost 'sticker' for a rental is a bad idea . . .

BUT I hope the visitor pass system helps solve the problem

We brought our own ezpass, but I was thinking about doing the visitor pass. We didn’t pick up the car at the airport. The info about the pass said you could only do it from airport locations. Would it have been possible to pick up the pass when we arrived and then return it when we got back to the airport even though we weren’t renting from an airport location?

huh?

NOW your EZ pass works throughout FL

but in any case the visitor pass now works thru a vending machine so they don't know if and when you actually get a rental . . . they only care you hook a credit card, and return it (or be charged $10 for non return)

yes, as of a few months ago, I think. I actually got charged for a local toll through my old sunpass account. Apparently, my ezpass transponder didn’t read correctly. The toll by plate went to my sunpass account for some reason instead of my ezpass account. I closed my sunpass account after that happened.

ETA: I just realized that you are aware that ezpass works in Florida.

I was thinking of using the visitor pass to avoid forgetting my ezpass in the rental.

That is not what it says on the visitor toll pass website. It specifically states in the FAQ that it only works with those rental car companies that are on property at MCO.

First find out whether the sticker really belongs to the rental company. If not then try to peel it off. You should be able to mutilate it enough so it does not charge its former owner.
