We're heading down to WDW again in a few months and will be driving it for the first time. We're driving from Illinois and I love the convenience if our cashless toll system (I-Pass). I know that Florida has a similar system with the SunPass system. Is it worth buying a SunPass transponder? Do the toll's get backed up that much in Florida? If not, I'm guessing it would just be easier to bring a roll of quarters along. Also, how much are tolls from the northern border to WDW? Thanks!

We were just there in April and while we didn't drive there, the toll(s) between MCO and WDW were very few, maybe two.

We are from SW Wisconsin, and did purchase the Sun Pass. We also have an I Pass for your roads! It is convenient, faster, and cheaper. I ordered the one online, that can be moved from vehicle to vehicle, as long as I register the car.

Would love it Florida's tollway was compatible with I-Pass/EZPass!

They are working on national standards for the transponders so you don't have to buy a different one when you go to Florida. A few years off though before its fully implemented.

We drove from Indiana and paid $10 to $15 in tolls round trip. We never experienced a back up at any toll plaza.

I was able to order the transponder for free online. I put 10 bucks on it....we save it and use it every year. It's a no brainer for me. It's free!

Hmmm... I could have sworn I got it for free...just from the sunpass website. NOw I'm wondering if I did pay for it? Hmmm....

If I recall, the one that is mobile, that can go from vehicle to vehicle, has a fee of $25.00. The other one that is a permanent attachments sticky back, and cannot be removed, may be free except for what is preloaded. There is a difference. One can only remain on one vehicle. If you remove it, the sticky backing nulify's the balance . The other cost $$ and can be transferred from one vehicle to another, as long as you chance the vehicle online. My our can also load more $$$ onto that one.

That would include the non-FL tolls, wouldn't it? I believe its only about $3.50 one-way on the FL turnpike from I-75 to I-4.

We didn't have non-florida tolls, but it may well have been more like $7. I had $20 in quarters in the car and we had plenty left, but I didn't count how much.

We got the transferrable $25. transponder for the convenience. We go to Florida annually and do not always stay in the Orlando area. As soon as we pick up our rental I register the car with our dates and licence and we are good to go. We used $18 in tolls this year.

We drive most trips from NC. We bought the transponder to travel toll rd 417 that allows us to avoid the congestion along I-4 as you approach Orlando. This picks ups near Sanford. We used to do the quarter deal, and it probably takes about 10 mins longer on a normal day, but I have seen it back up and cause longer times. We think it is worth it for saving time and money over the long haul.

I'm a Chicagoan too, and love the IPass...so we, too, bought a SunPass. Now we don't have to worry about ever coming across one of the unmanned toll booths. We've had it for the last 4 trips. So glad we got one!
