Sunglasses

Oakley non polarized. I have contacts with some dry eye issues and oakleys protect whether bike riding swimming or driving
Polarized film breaks down too quickly with salt/ pool water and accidental sunscreen exposure - can't use when wave riding but for basic very light waves they are fine stay on well

My absolutely favorite pair was $2 from Five Below. I had them for two years, and just lost them on Sunday. :( I went back to Five Below but they didn't have anything similar. So now I'll try target, Walgreens, and the mall kiosks. I'm ok spending more if I can find another comfortable pair. The ear part was flexible rubber that never pinched or rubbed.

Sierra Trading Post just sent an email (deal flyer) with 50% off plus free shipping on $50 order on 'select merchandize'. I saw a pair of Oakley, Costa, Bolle, Serengeti - 57 different style closeouts discounted 1/2 off. Not sure if this is just through the email or not. The 50% is until midnite tonight.

I second Sierra Trading post! I wear Costas every day. I live in South Alabama and the sun is strong everyday. I have also had Serengetis. I prefer the Costas from a comfort level. The lenses on both brands are great but the Costas frames are plastic and don't pull my hair like the metal framed Serengetis. I have had a pair of Costas that I got on clearence from Sierra Trading that broke (my daughter stepped on them in the car seat) and I went on line, filled out a repair form, mailed the glasses to Costa. They no longer made that style but I was able to replace the ones that got broken for a fraction. If they had still made the style then they would have replaced for free.

I can't even go outside in daylight without sunglasses. I start to squint really bad and end up with a headache. I'm another one who has trouble keeping track of sunglasses but since I always wear them, I try to keep few pairs lying around.

Last year was my 15-year anniversary at work and I was given a catalog of gifts to choose. I decided to splurge and get some Maui Jim sunglasses. I looked them up on some websites and it looks like they sell at Amazon in the $170-$200 range. I am very pleased with them. The glass lenses are so much nicer than the plastic ones in my "cheapos". They are polarized which makes them great for driving. As a paramedic, I do a lot of driving at work and these glasses are great in the rain and the early morning/twilight hours. The biggest downside to them is their price. I got them as a gift, but if I ever break or lose them, I will be hard-pressed to NOT replace them. Because they are so expensive, I am extra careful with them. I bought a neck strap (don't care if it is fashionable or not...I'm not losing my sunglasses!) and I keep them in a hard case (included) when I'm not wearing them.

Maui Jim has a pretty great warranty on their glasses. I think it is a two year warranty and there is a $10 servicing fee. I just got mine back from repair today and they look brand new. They were a lot of money up front but they are super comfortable and I can actually wear them for long periods of time unlike most sunglasses which are usually way too big for me.

Serengeti for me. I have other brands that are more stylish, but when I need performance I grab for my Serengeti's no question. In fact I just bought a pair of my go to style as a back-up because I'd go nuts if I lost or broke them and had to wait for a replacement.

Most of the other biggies mentioned so far, along with just about every other sunglasses brand out there, are made by Luxottica now. I imagine different brands are made to different specifications, at least I hope so given the varied price points, but I have to wonder how different the lenses really are?

How about the Mickey Mouse Ray Bans, anyone try those out yet? I love the idea, but I'm not a fan of the Wayfarer style.

Polarized RayBan and surprisingly I've kept up with them for 3 years. I think because I know they're expensive. I've never owned a pair this great.

I have two pair of channel and one pair of dolce and gabbana. WAAAAYYY more money than I care to admit. one of the channels I no longer like and think are hideous, what was I thinking type of things but the other pair I love love love. they were made into prescription glasses four years ago and I just took them in and am having a new prescription put in them. they have really lasted so well worth the money.

I agree with the p.p. who said if they are expensive you take better care of them.
