Last year when ever i put suncream on Izzy she would come out in an auful rash, i tried several brands but still the same, she was only a baby so we just kept her in the buggy covered up most of the time so she was ok...this time theres no way that child will sit still so i need to put something on her.

Anyone had similar experiences or suggest a brand that might work and not irrate her , or would a lower factor be better. im not sure what to try, there so expensive to trial and error.....?

My daughter had a real issue with suncream until we found a few that work. She'd breakout in a rash every time I put it on her, even if she didn't actually end up in the sun.

Two that we have found to work are organic children and California Baby. I prefer the California Baby one, as it seems to go on a little nicer. Nothing I can use on her rubs in nice and easy though. California Baby isn't cheap over here, but you can get some and try it. I'd make sure it doesn't cause a rash before you go, since miserable child on holiday is not a good plan. It's cheaper in the States. I'm pretty sure Target carries it, though other places probably do too. If you can't find it anywhere else, amazon.co.uk or sites that sell things like cloth nappies are likely to have it. I think I found the organic children one at Waitrose last year. I know I found something there that worked. It's the wrong time of year to buy it in shops though, as I'm sure you know.

It may be worth trying a few brands and testing them on her here first. Are you sure that the rash was from the actual sun cream and not a heat rash? I'm not questioning you at all, but I just wondered.

Parasol Kids 25+ ,its a once a day, we usually do DD twice, just in case, never had any probs with rash or sunburn. Bit more expensive , but we know it works so more than happy to keep using it.

My son had severe eczma and sun cream was a nightmare, it always made it worse!! Anyway we had a suncream recomended through the specialist he was seeing, it was fantastic...it is Roc. The one we had was especially for sensitive skin, You have to ask for it at the chemist and it is quite expensive but boy, it's worth it. In the end our very nice GP used to give it to us on perscription.

Simple suncream for prickly heat (from Boots) or P20 and we also use a spray for prickly heat (magicool i think its called from Superdrugs). Lucy always has prickly heat in Floriday, think it must be the humidity.

It's not a terribly nice thing to think about doing, but if you want to be sure it's the suncream and not a heat rash, that's pretty easy to test out now.

Terri, Aveno is a Johnson and Johnson product range that is widely available in the states, mainly online over here. Poppy had ezcema when a baby and this was all we could use. I haven't shopped around for best price, just used the Amazon page to show you the product. It's much cheaper over there in Walgreens though :thumbsup2

Another good range is Sunsense. My SIL highly recommends this range for my sensitive nephew but I've never used it myself.

I use P20 and I must admit I wouldn't put it on my children, it's a strongly alcohol based product that works on almost "stinging" the product into the skin. DH and I love it :thumbsup2

my dd has incredibly sensitive skin. We never found anything to suit her except lavera which left a nasty white covering until last year when we tried the ultrasun sensitive. To make it even better it is only meant to be applied once a day (although in Florida we did slap it on twice a day.)

I was thinking the same thing, it might just be the sun and the heat rather than the cream you are using. I have a friend who has had a problem with sun on her skin since she was small, she is very fair skinned and reddish blond hair coloring- only a facor 60 prevents it on her.

do you have to be careful with shampoos and soaps etc?

We had problem with our DD and sunscream since she was a baby, we have finally found the perfect once (a recommendation from a forum) It is called Uvistat, it is not cheap, around £8 a 125ml bottle, but that 125ml will last her for 2 weeks, a little goes a very long way!!

Another thing you may want to watch out for is sometimes the waterproof element of suncream can make skin/rashes worse, so it may be worth trying something that is not waterproof and saving a waterproof one for only when you need it.

Hope this helps, I know how awful it was when I had to put suncream on my DD when I could see that it was sore!

I can't recommend anything really for kids cream wise, but have you thought about sun protective clothing? They usually have a spf of 50.

They are on the expensive side, but if they stop your little one getting a rash, I think they will be money well spent.

Another vote for Ultrasun here. Our eldest used to have eczema and a lot of suncreams used to bother her, she has pretty much grown out of it now but Ultrasun sensitive was brilliant at the time :thumbsup2

Ali :goodvibes
