Sunblock?

I'm not Irish, but I'm just as fair skinned as an Irishman. :) I don't EVER tan. And when I burn, it's not red. It's just this awful pink color. Looks like I bathed in Pepto Bismol.

What a great sense of humor you have. That is funny.

THanks! :)

Since we're on the topic of sunblock, I want to mention something I make sure to do with mine... One of the most annoying sunburns I've ever had was one on my scalp. The part in my hair was not something that I remembered to cover with sunscreen, and that was all that burned. It didn't help much that it was peeling off and itchy for my wedding a few days later!! Just something to think about! :sunny:

I know what you mean, this happened to me at Disneyland last year. I cut my hair very short in the summer and the whole top of my head got sunburned, how can you remedy it? I can't put sunscreen in my hair so then what??? I've been going to WDW for 5 years and have never had this happen but since it happened last year at DL I'm afraid it might happen again. Maybe my diabetes medication has something to do with it? Anyone know?

Another bit of advice. Remember to sunscreen the tops of your ears if they are exposed. This is a major ouchie! I wear a baseball cap (Mickey of course) to the parks since I'm both fair skinned and have very sensitive eyes. Leaves the ears exposed though.

I also have a large amount of Irish blood and am very pale. (I get the "are you sick?" questions all summer long!) I use the products for babies that are 60+. I like the smell better and if they get in my eyes, they don't seem to hurt as much. We have found that the "no ad" generic sunscreens do not work for us so we avoid them.

The best thing to prevent scalp burning is to wear a hat. I can't imagine going to WDW (or anyplace else outside all day) without wearing a hat. But we are REALLY fair....never tan. Sunscreen can only do so much. Plus, sunscreens are full of pretty nasty chemicals.

I know my face is always ruddy in the summertime heat. I'm not sunburn, it's flushing due to the heat. Perhaps that's what's going on with the 12 year old daughter?

I was wondering if anyone would mention this. My daughter is very blonde and and fine hair. Her scalp will get sunburned and mine will too if I'm not careful. We've actually rubbed the sunscreen in our hair before. Not a lot or it will get greasy. If you are not going to be wearing a hat, I'd highly recommend it.

Remember eye lids, too! I once got burned on my eyelids so badly they swelled shut! OUCH!!!

I vote for Coppertone Sport--spf 48. Whatever you get make sure it's UVA & UVB. Apply sunscreen before you go out since it takes about 20-30 minutes to work. Reapply every few hours. It's worth it to avoid a sunburn but also skin cancer.

There is supposed to be a new sunscreen made specifically for hair and scalp but I can't remember if it's Coppertone. I'm going to be looking for that next time at the store.

The wax stick works well for the part in the hair, too, as well as the tops of the ears. Another spot not to forget: the tops of your feet.

I've seen Ombrelle in the US many times; I suspect that the US version may be a different formula that the Canadian one, though.
I've never bought it because it doesn't come in a fine spray.

Not from ireland but 100% Irish....red hair blue eyes freckles and....extremely light skin. I use the coppertone brand (blue bottle) the sport one...and i wear a hat...

^ when i said that i meant i dont LIVE in ireland not that im not from ireland...woopsies sorry

I burn very easily AND if I use most sunscreens I break out in a red rash (something in them, when exposed to the sun, creates an allergic reaction in me).

I absolutely agree that ones with Titanium Dioxide in them are the way to go...they don't contain the chemical that causes the reaction. The hot Florida sun always triggered the rash in my but thankfully NEUTRAGENA for SENSITVE SKIN w/TITANIUM DIOXIDE has solved all my problems :) It's an spf of 30 I believe and I put it on every few hours. Highly recommend it!

When I come home from a vacation people always comment that I'm as pale as when I left (I take that as a compliment).

I'm 50% Irish.

This evening I was at BIG LOTS and they carry Ombrelle Sunscreen Lotion. The 4 oz. bottle SPF 40 was $2.99. They also had it in SPF 15 and 30.

We were at WDW in June and it was very hot! We used NO-AD 45 and I really liked the feel of it. None of us burned (except for the spot I missed behind my ear) or peeled after we returned home. Im very sensitive in my face and the NO-AD worked great!
We spent hours in the pool too.

One of the parenting magazines just had an item about sunscreens and said the best had: zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, and parosal (sp?). My neighbor, who showed me the article, said she bought NO-AD and it had those ingredients. She bought it at Wal-Mart.

I read somewhere that there is a difference between sunscreen and sunblock- sunscreen goes into your skin, while sunblock sits on top of it- they said sunblock is less likely to irritate your skin.

I usually buy a sunblock in SPF 50 and slather it on before I leave for the parks. I've only been to WDW in the spring and summer but this year I'm going in December for the first time- do you still have to use lots of sunblock at WDW in the winter? -Stephanie

Ombrelle is not available in the US b/c it contains an ingredient (mexoryl) not approved by the FDA. It's a fabulous sunscreen. We order ours from Canada along with another suncreen that contains mexoryl, Anthelios L. They're expensive, but we have very fair skin and it's worth it. I don't know why the FDA hasn't approved mexoryl. Every other country in the world uses it.

Thanks, I hadn't found out the answer! ;) :wave2:
