sunblock?

I know I'm getting way ahead of myself, but a question occurred to me last night.

We have an early flight down, getting us into our resort by 10 or 11 am. I know our luggage will be hours behind us.

How do I transport sunblock? Does it have to be 2 oz or less? Do they even sell it in tubes that small? Or do I have to buy it when we get to the Poly?

I know I could apply it before leaving NY, but to be honest: we'll be leaving the house by 4:30 to get to the airport by 5 for our 7 am flight. I just can't see the sunblock lasting until we hit the pool or park 7 or 8 hours later.

So--- what do we do?

To carry on it has to be 3 ounces or less....you may be able to find a small bottle of some kind, but if not, buy one of those little plastic fillable bottles in the travel section at Walmart or Target (they are all 3 oz or less & airport security safe...they usually have stickers that say so) and fill that up and put in your clear baggie to get through security. Don't wait to buy it there. I forgot sunblock (or actually, didn't think I would need it in Feb and it ended up being 80 degrees & sunny) and had to purchase some at Pop, and a very small bottle was $10!!!!

Thanks for the advice!

I'm planning to have a ton in my suitcase-- one of my daughters and I are both "blessed" with that pale Irish skin.

But that first day does have me a bit concerned.

target has travel sized sun block!

also sometimes pharmacy's will have test sizes! :)

I would just buy a bottle when you get to the resort. It will cost more but less hassle and you may need more than 2 oz for the family to be covered as well as they need to be. it seems they had a host of choices there.

Neutrogena often has trial sizes attached to larger bottles. I stock up on these every summer. My pediatric dermatologist recommends the Neutrogena with helioplex.

I would recommend buying it down there. You will need to put anything larger than 3 oz in your suitcase. If you should decide to take it with you, put it in a ziploc bag.
On a trip to Vegas last year, I had the continuous spray in my suitcase. Since all luggage is not handled with care....I found the cap busted when I got to the hotel. The only thing that saved my clothes, was the ziploc bag! Everything still smelled like sunscreen though.
Have a great trip! :thumbsup2

We use the small ones - I prefer Coppertone, and I can often find a small bottle with a carabeener packaged with a bigger bottle. We fill the small one, tote it into the parks, then refill it as necessary. The small ones can be carried on in a 1 qt ziploc bag.

I have the same problem, what a pain. I so wanted to have my "park bag" ready and packed to carry on.

I am also packing a few of the sprays, guess I had better double bag them!

Neutrogena's "UltraSheer Dry-Touch Sunblock" is sold in 3 oz. containers only and that's quite a bit of sunscreen. I have somewhat sensitive skin and use this all the time. It's light and absorbs easily, also a broad spectrum UVA/UVB and comes in SPF 30 and 45. Runs ~$7 + so not inexpensive however...

Walmart had quite a few brands of 3 oz lotions when I last checked. Babies R Us also had them, but Walmart was cheaper. I put 2 in the quart bag that was in my carryon and 1 in the quart bag for my husband's carryon. This coming up trip, I was also considering getting the sunscreen wipes as suggested by a previous poster.

We are going in June and I just bought Banana Boat Sunblock Ultra Defense SPF 80 at Wal-Mart in a 3 oz. bottle. I bought 3 bottles of it. I have two little ones who are very fair skinned. I bought several just to be safe. (I tend to do things over kill:laughing: )But, anyway, I got it at Wal-Mart.

Why are you not able to carry sunblock in 3 oz or more? I know why you can't take more than 2 batteries per bag but I've never heard the reasons behind sunblock...

I haven't flown since way before 9/11-- I assumed that sunblock fell under the "no fluids of more than 3 oz" rules.

I buy sunscreen wipes for carrying on the airplane. I don't like them enough for every day use and they aren't cheap, but they're ideal for these situations.

See if this link works...

I would use the wipes too! Or can you transport the stick type?? Are you going to be swimming and needing alot of sunblock? If you are just going to be looking around and need it for ears, faces and arms the stick would be great!!

No liquids or gels (of any kind) larger than 3 oz in your carry on and it must be in the clear quart size bag and outside of your luggage so that they can clearly see what's in there.

this is probablly a stupid question.. but are juice boxes allowed..?? we have an early flight and the kids were going to have juice boxes and cereal bars on the plane...

If they're under 3 oz you're OK but most are probably > than that. You should be able to buy at least orange and apple juice beyond the security checkpoint.
