Sun Wheel in DCA-noone said it was the SCARIEST ride in both parks!!

:lmao: I just found a picture I took of my sis the last time I went on the darn Sun Wheel, I think she says it all for me:

And yes, it was one of the swinging ones.

Okay, don't laugh...I HATE the Sun Wheel. This was my first time on it. My DBF took these pictures in December of last year.

I feel for you, I really do. I never want my picture taken on that evil ride. I'm sure my expression would be just like yours, mixed with a little: :earseek:

You can count me as a fan of the swinging gondolas. It is just a gentle rocking motion. I find the ride much more relaxing than Space Mountain or Star Tours. Those two give me headaches.

That said, I prefer the stationary gondolas because the line a much shorter. The swinging gondola line is usually 10 times longer.

This is too funny! I am not a big thrill ride person - but I did do the TOT because my DS wanted to. I was terrified to ride the swinging gondolas (I had done the stationary ones before) but I did it. It was not that bad! I am TERRIFIED of heights, can't stand to fly, but these did not really bother me. I did not feel unsafe. There are no seatbelts, but the seat is not one you can slip around on at all (it's "texturized" so your butt doesn't slide around at all). I figure if those little kids can do it, no way can I back out! It wasn't as bad as I thought - not my favorite, but I would definitely do it again if my son wants to.

Yep, that would be ME! But as you can see, I'm in the minority.

Just like me and the teacups I Love Them sooo much!

I don't think I'd ever like the Sun Wheel :scared1: ...even though it is a great place to take pics (if your can zoom through the wire) :thumbsup2

I've had my "never again" ride on the Sun Wheel of Death. I went with DD2 (at the time,) DSIL, DNiece6, and DNephew3. We started out with me and dd on one side, and the rest on the other. We didn't even make it half way up before DSIL had to take DD from me because I was freaking out. The second that sucker started to move, I started to freak. I was white knuckled holding on to the bottom of the seat the whole time. And this was on the stationary ones!!! My DH, DBrother and my mom were still in line to get on the moving ones and I remember passing them once as the boys were laughing hysterically at me and mom had this "Oh, honey" look on her face. It was the worst ride I have ever been on. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!

Sign me up as a "NEVER AGAIN" passenger. Scariest ride I've ever been on. We went on our first trip to Dl since I was a kid. Thought it would be a nice spot to enjoy the view...had no idea they swung! UGH! I was nearly in tears, I think the girls were and DH was trying not to loose it b/c he didn't want to freak us all out more. He had to be the tough guy. Needless to say, I have no idea if the view is good from up there or not.

I don't like heights. I don't like ferris wheels.

When DD was 3 her grandparents took her on the Sun Wheel. They loved it! She laughed and laughed and told me I had to ride it. So I unwillingly went on it and I HATED it! You're just in this cage! Where are the seat belts?!?! I felt so vulnerable.

Still, I ride it with her because I make her go on things with me she doesn't particularly enjoy (Space Mountain anyone?). Last year she seemed to be a bit frightened by the ride, so I'm hoping she'll want to skip it this year. LOL. I would rather be strapped into a high speed coaster to loop do loops and goes upside down 5 times that sit in that swinging cage with no safetly restraints!

I need to know...does anyone LOVE the swinging gondolas?

I'm considering including it on my itinerary on my solo day, but it's my only iffy ride. ;)

I rode it, and would never do so again, but that was because it was the most boring ride at DL, there is nothing scary about it to me, my son and I were like, when can we get off so we can go do something fun?

One year we were there they had closed the stable side of the wheel. So we took our 2 1/2 year old and 5 year old on the swinging gondola and boy was that a huge mistake. My 2 1/2 freaked out like I have never seen anyone freak out before. When we got to the bottom I was yelling at the CM to let us out.

I will take TOT any day over that evil swinging gondola.

I am amazed and amused at how many people fear and loathe the sun wheel, or eventually to be Mickey wheel.

The only thing to fear is the stupid line for it!

How can you not fear it??!!!

I'm terified! But I thinl I'll go this year.

You have to admit it is an irrational fear. I mean, what can happen? Has what you are fearing happened to anyone else? Of course not. I really don't see what the big deal is unless you are under 5 years or so of age.

I would imagine that The Disney Company would and is surprised at how feared the sun wheel (especially rolling buckets) is and that is it regarded by many as one of the more frightening attractions at DLR. I can't imagine that was the intent and I think that is funny.:lmao:

What can happen?? Are you kidding?? That thing can swing all the way around in a big huge circle throwing you all over the place!!! Or worse!!! It could FALL sending you to a watery grave.....Ok, so I'm overdramatic but those are things that flash thru my head when I watch it.....SCARY!!!!

Did you see that during the DCA re-theming they're going to turn it into
"Mickey's Fun Wheel"? That's just not right, on so many levels.

Most terrifying ride I've ever been on.

I have personally never rode it due to my dad's fear of hieghts and no seat belts. but it looks fun and my friends love it. Although, one of my friends rode it with her sister and they videoed it as proff that it could really flip over. they were sitting on the ceiling hanging on the the seats above them. its on facebook somewhere.

You could never get me to get my behind on that ride. Love TOT and Screamin, but have to desire to swing that high in the air.
