Sun spots...

I have a question, you know those sun rings that occasionally pop up in shots (sorry, would post a picture but am at the office)-is there any way of correcting them??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A lens hood if you are asking about correcting them in processing I have no idea but I'm not a processing expert (Or a photography expert for that matter lol).

I assume you are talking about flare. The PP is correct that a hood can sometimes take care of them, using a filter of any sorts can actually cause more of them so a polarizer will actually not help. This goes for UV or protective filters as well. High Quality filters will minimize this effect but high quality filters are expensive.

In post processing...its difficult. You have to select the flare spot and either clone it out(easiest if its possible) or you have to apply color and contrast corrections locally(especially if the spots are large).

If you post the shot here we can provide advice as to whether its salvageable.

Most of the time you're wasting time trying to correct in post. Use a hood when you shoot, no filters, and be aware of your angle to the sun. And know that flare is more likely with cheap glass and wider angles.

flare in the lense could be used for a nice photo I have only done it once and haven't be able to do it again.

Funny, but I actually have a plug in I use to put lens flare on photos in post processing... when used sparingly I think they can actually make a photo more interesting... but trying to get rid of one would probably be more trouble than its worth.
